When I was a kid, I worked on a farm that had a fleet of AC tractors with fender mounted radios. They were AM only, but it really helped with the boredom factor while raking or plowing acre after acre! Now a days, I never get bored using my tractor, and rather like hearing it chug, but it would be nice at times to have some tunes! My question is, are these still being made, and if so ,has anyone ever installed one on their CUT, and how well does it work? Are they available in AM/FM? Thanks, Kerry

Yes they're still made, and yes they're offered with am/fm. A coworker of mine has an am/fm/cassette player on the fender of his Boomer, and an ex-coworker installed a radio in the dash of his Boomer. The guy with the fender mount can plug his headphones into his. Start with an internet search for tractor radios or check at a local farm & fleet store.

I also enjoy having something to listen to when mowing for hours at a time. I bought a set of headphones for under $20.

Yes.. I know that my local NH dealer sells them.. gets a pretty penny for them too. However.. I bouhgt a ? $99 dolar unit from TSC about 4 years ago. It's worked great for me. It's a fender mount.. though they do have canopy top mounts as well.

Good investment.. has a headphone jack and all. I got a big set of earmuff style headphones. i can mow all day and listen to classic rock.. plus the big phones block out the mowing nose even when you have the radio off.

Here is a radio I added to my FOPS, AM/FM/ CD player, It has four, 4" trixial speakers and sounds great. Even the birds sing-a-long. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I got a pair of Peltor worktunes and they work surprisingly well. They are versitile as I can use them on the big tractor, lawn tractor, chainsaw and whenever I need hearing protection. I feel much better when using hearing protection while doing chores. It is amazing how draining hours of noise can be even if just mowing the lawn.

I've posted these pics before, but here is what mine looks like. Got the speaker box at Fred's for $12.00 & the CD player at the pawn shop for $15.00. Very simple to mount if you have a canopy and sounds great too.

I'll tell you what I do.

Take a set of ear muffs. (Mine are Stihl chainsaw muffs). Then simply place a pair of quality portable ear phones inside the ear muff. Be sure to take off the ear clips. I use KSC75, Koss ear phones. Just plug into your portable CD player and you've got a great little system. Try it, you'll be amazed for something about $50.00 or less.

Koss portable headphones

I love my setup. I get hearing protection and great fidelity, too.
