Are you using paper towels? If so, don't. They have something in them that causes streaks. Use cloth or newspaper.

Use a microfiber cloth to buff it. Autogeek has some specifically glass.

Yeah, Im using the blue microfibers.
Its almost like a greasy haze/streak being left behind. If I buff the heck out of it, I can usually get it out, but i REALLY have to buff.

It might not be the best thing, but I use the blue paper shop towels.

the only times i ever had a rainx problem was if i didnt buff the windows well enough. easily fixed by misting with water and buffing out with an old bath towel. In fact i do all the windows, not just the windshield, in the winter time it makes them much easier to scrape frost and ice off of.

You may be using too much window cleaner:confused3:

I dont think so? I try and apply a thin film from a distance. The stoner invisible glass stuff is a bit different. It doesnt foam really, just mists on. Its almost like very slightly soapy water.

I live near the puget sound. It is wet here, it rains all the time, it is dark and dreary and we grow moss on our backs. I love rain-X. Follow the directions and it won't leave smears, streaks, or scum. I use it on all the windows and mirrors but the windshield is the most important.
Highbeam did you have any problem with the back moss dieing off during the recent 82 days without rain. We are neighbors. My moss got a sickly look to it and my toe webs got a little dry and cracked, seem to be recovering in the last few days. Now back to Rain-X some people have great success with it and some don't. No matter what method I use I can never get it to work to my satisfaction.

I've used rain-x for years on multiple vehicles, in various parts of the country. Never a problem. Maybe it has something to do with the type of windshield washer/antifreeze you use? I have never had streaking problems. It is the best stuff in light rain -- the rain water just runs off without wipers. Maybe that is the problem (your wipers). When I use rain-x on my windows I rarely have to turn my wipers on except in a very hard downpour. Maybe check the manufacturers' website or customer service for info on your problem.

Same experience here. I've been using Rain-X since the late 90's. I re-apply about once every two months on both mine and my wife's car.

A clean windshield before applying Rain-X is the key as written in the directions (which I know few read). Don't be afraid to use a clay bar on your windshield to keep it clean.
