best thing for really clean glass, cloth baby diapers and the old formula Bon ami. my grandfather owned an auto glass shop for many years and this is what he used to clean them. gets all residue, and anything off the glass. News paper is great as well if just using windex.

I use the Rain-X washer fluid and it works like a champ.

the only times i ever had a rainx problem was if i didnt buff the windows well enough. easily fixed by misting with water and buffing out with an old bath towel. In fact i do all the windows, not just the windshield, in the winter time it makes them much easier to scrape frost and ice off of.
I think that may be the issue with folks having Rain-X streaking. I use a very small amount of Rain-X (sometimes being cheap has it's advantages ), buff the heck out of it, then wipe the window with a clean rag to make sure nothing is left on the window. Never have any streaks. And I also use it on all windows and even mirrors.

Used Rain-X for years, love it, just follow the directions on the bottle.

I put Rain-X on my car last week after posting in this thread... I was grumbling for a short time until I realized I had done a poor job of cleaning the inside of my windshield. :D
