Rain X

/ Rain X #21
Ok, i'm a little confused on the coke and rain x. I had used rain x, i believe it was on a car years ago and like Ernie said ,it had such a glare at night from oncoming traffic that i said i would never use it again. Anyway , i was was getting the oil changed on my box truck a couple of years ago and the guy talked me into putting stuff on my windshield better then rain x he said. Same results as rain x. I drive mostly at night and i hate that glare you get from it. So, does the coke get rid of the rain x on the windshield or does it just get rid of the glare and leaves the rain x alone?

Thanks,
Dur

I am with you bob, the stuff is just not worth the trouble to me, I just try to keep good wiper blades.

Perhaps it's been improved over the years, but I stopped using it 15 years ago and will NEVER go back.
1st application or two was cool. Light rain, no wipers, water droplets would roll UP the windshield like the bubbles in 7-up. As it wore off, visibility suffered, smeary and glare so you kept applying it. After awhile it didn't matter. Couldn't make it better, couldn't get it off (and I have an arsenal of solvents).
Ruined the visor on my M/C helmet, had to replace it.
I wouldn't waste a Sam's cola, let alone a Coke on that crap.
To all of those who have had better results, I'm envious, I liked the concept, but they won't find a customer here.

ps...this is the sugar coated version of how I feel about rain-x.

Dur, I've used the Coke for many years, but I don't know whether it removes RainX; only that it makes the windshield look clean and gets rid of the glare. And I don't guess any of the cars I've used Coke on had RainX on them.

You are right Ed, it seems like it takes forever for that stuff to wear off on its own. I think it's ok for mirrors and side glass, but i'll never put it on a windshield again. Just keep good wiper blades as was mentioned.

Thats what I do now, I only use it on the back & side glass.
But the night time glare is outright dangerous when using the wipers.
Bird, I tried the coke cleaner yrs. ago, it works like a charm
it will strip ANY oil off of your windshield & make it look like new. (old truckers trick)

Ok, now is that regular coke? Coke Classic? Diet Coke? How about Lemon Coke? Lime Coke? Cherry Coke? Any cola, or does it have to be Coca Cola? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

When I first started using Coke, there wasn't but one kind. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif I'll bet even Pepsi would work. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Bird, your just a mine of information.

*I've never heard of the Coke trick before but I'm going to have to file it away for future use

along with Juicy Fruit Chewing Gum for gophers and self raising flower for grubs and caterpillars.

I've used Rain-X for years and think it's a great product. I treat the windshields every 6 months or so and use their washer fluid. Works good. )</font>

I heard that about coke years ago and have tried it a time or 2.

Another use for Coke. I saw it on the NASCAR race this weekend. The pits were slick and the crew guys were having a hard time running around the car without slipping and the car also wasn't gripping and just spinning when time to leave pit road. They shook the cans up and poked a couple of small holes in them and sprayed their pit box down.

Think we could get enough Coke to fill a sprayer and use a tractor to do that? Had to get this post tractor related somehow. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

If your land is bumpy, like mine, it would even pressurize itself!
