I don't know how much precipitation you had from the current storm, but here in the Mojave we had 7.5 - 8". That's more than we had over the last 2 years total!

Wow! Do you expect a rare desert bloom or greenup from this, or is it still too cool for that to happen?

I do think you need to get a new rain gage or paint a scale on the inside of your wheelbarrow for easy reading.:D

Jinman, he has a "duel" purpose gauge. My little glass one I guess could also be a "duel" purpose one used as a "shot" glass..:D

Start getting rains like that one all the time and the "desert" will start getting crowded.

Still a little cold for that. Notice that the ruler is stuck through a layer of ice!

We should have a good spring wild flower season.

Jim, Is the Mojave going to flood? I lived at Barstow for about 11 years. Back in '69, I think, they had to open the gates at Lake Arrowhead because of a lot of rain and created a big headache downstream. I was standing under the old bridge near the train depot when the river bed went from dry to white water rapids in just a few minutes.

It's been so dry for so long here that excepting for local washouts, it pretty much soaked in. It came over 3 to 4 days, not our usual 2" per hour. The mountains around Arrowhead and Big Bear got about 3' of snow so the lakes could get back to normal. Arrowhead was down over 20' last year.

About 2 weeks ago I saw your govenor on tv begging for rain. His wish came true. On a more serious note . I hope the rain helps the drought conditions without causing extensive flood damage. I wached a show where the pecan farmers were tearing out some of the older trees to try to save water for the more productive ones. They were talking about millions of dollars of trees.

Deserts are fascinating. It always seemed so odd to be driving in an area that looks as if it hasn't seen a rain in a hundred years and yet see signs to not drive into water, or to see a sign on a bridge saying, "No Fishing from Bridge" when there's nothing but a dry wash under the bridge.:D

yeah, and in some parts of the world your in the middle of a desert, look down and realize your standing on what once was - an old sea bed.
