Interesting. My experience with a 350 was mediocre at best. Horrible fuel mileage. Bone stock 4bbl 350, '76 Chevy pickup. Ya, the one where you had to pull in to the gas station, fill up one tank, turn around, fill the other.

I liked my 351 Ford MUCH better. I found LA series Mopars got better mileage. Read Hot Rod articles outlining 360 Mopars and 350 Chevies being built; they built 350 and 360 with comparable parts; The Mopar made more power, and actually cost less to build. Chrome was cheaper for the Chevy, but...

I personally, from experience, do not see the popularity of a 350 GM.

with a 350 chev life woud be great.

Yesterday morning around 7:45 am I received a call from my nieghbor...
"Could you please come down by the school at the four corners and tow me home?"
I said, "sure thing buddy, I would love to tow a dodge with my GMC".
Best truck ever made, hands down.
Duramax, matched with the allison trans......enough said!

I saw that truck 3-4 years ago at the auto show. If I remember right at the time they were putting a CAT in it. Something like a 8L inline 6. They also had another engine in the works that Toyota already owned, the Hino.

Chris

I remember when they came out also, havent seen or herd much about them, far as the engine, its the Hino, I read in one of the diesel power mags, that cat is staying out of the light duty trucks due to the regulations on emissions, as i read, its not worth the money are trouble of them to get in it. Thats to bad i always wanted to see a cat in the light duty trucks. Maybe one day they might come up with a good ideal on the emisions.

To be fair, on my 95 2500 CTD, the Bosch pump had to be replaced  At only ~50,000 miles, I thought it would be the last part to ever go bad, but I limped into a Cummins dealer (not Dodge dealer) and that's what they told me. I was in no position to get a second opinion, anyway $2,500. later for a rebuilt pump kinda hurt at the time. But in the long run, 12 years that was the only mechanical problem besides brakes and batteries. Always wondered if I didn't get taken for that pump, I thought they were bullet proof, but one of the Cummins techs told me it just happens sometimes :(JB.

It does just happen some times.

I'll take my chances.

That does suck, the Bosch pump is a good and long lasting pump, sounds like you got a friday or a monday pump after a long holiday. Sorry to here that.
Anyway from my past experience with the 96 Dodge that i had for 7 years, I took it to a shop due to a slight ticking sound from the fuel pump, all he did was replaced the fuel filter and the ticking sound went away, this is from the pump starting to starve for fuel, sometimes its not a milage issue as of when to replace the fuel filter but how clean the diesel is as of where you buy it. So after that i kept the filter changed around 5k t0 7k miles. Now that i have a 08 Dodge dually with the 6.7, I think the book says to replace every 15k miles, but i am doing it every 10k, when having any kind of pump trouble, dont matter if Ford Chevy or Dodge, the first thing they will look at is the maints record and they will SCREW you every change they get by not going by there maints book, seen it to many times, so i try to stay ahead of the game.

IMHO, '76 was only a good year for music...well, and a few other things I can't talk about. :D I can't think of a 1976 anything I'd want, but I went as far as buying the Time Life (I think) top 100 hits of that year. Great music that year!

Absolutely, was not that bad of an experiance to not buy another Cummins powered truck. Even needing HP pump it still started!

I am with you. Every 350 I have ever been around used and dripped oil like crazy. Yes, they can be fun bored .030 over and stroked. I have one in my boat right now. They are popular because they are plentiful, cheap, and make decent power.

The Dodge 360 has been one of my favorite motors. My neighbor had one in a late 90's Ram 1500 and that thing would pull great. Much better than the 2003 Hemi I had. Never had any real experience with a 351 except in a Mustang but never in a truck. Cost more to build but was bullet proof and made great power though the entire rpm range. Did have some 460 experience and if you can get over the drinking of fuel it was a power house.

Of the 3 I am with you though. Really like the old 360. Always wanted one in a Durango back in the late 90's when they made them that way.

I've got a 1700A series Cummins diesel in my Branson tractor and really like it but would never have one if it had to be in a Dodge truck!
Have you ever looked at the suspension under a Dodge?
Now look under my 2011 Ford F250 and you'll appreciate the difference, a real truck.

I have done it the other way around :D

You wouldn't believe how many comments I get "pulling a chevy with a Dodge"

To be honest, I was flat bedded once by a dura max powered class 5 GM tow rig and I was impressed with the power that thing had, but the driver said it was finicky and always being worked on by their own mechanics.

JB.
