Ram1500 EcoDiesel V6 revealed!

Fuelly means nothing to me for what other drivers get. How are those vehicles driven? Does the driver have a lead foot? City or highway? Towing or empty? Do they start it and let it idle? I don't see my truck in there, but it is right at 12.9 right now (Here it is), and I have tracked every single fill up since buying it in March 2011. I'm comparing my driving style on different vehicles, not my driving style to Joe Shmoe's. In other words, I'm comparing apples to apples, not apples to bananas. All I'm telling you, is that in my experience and my type of (everyday) driving, diesel doesn't match gas in fuel economy. Highway? Sure, but I don't typically drive on the highway.

I'll throw my 2 cents in. You are also comparing the 6.4 which is known to get the worst fuel mileage of all the ford diesels. I know I had 2 of them. Still have one.

Did anyone read the article? This Ram has a payload of "859 lb". How can they award this truck of the year, when it has the least capability? It can't legally haul 5 men in the cab, with an empty bed. Crazy.

I posted the same thing back in July. Post #20. In another thread I said you couldn't take a foursome and golf clubs.

While talking about weights, the Diesel weights 50 lbs more than the hemi and the hemi is one of the heaviest engines in the segment.

Ok, this is getting a little silly. Rated Payload is 1400 to 1600 lbs depending on the configuration. If you go by the axle ratings it's right around a ton.

Wouldn't the payload change if you had 5 adults in the cab?

Yes, everything you physically stick inside the truck is considered payload. Including fuel, and the air in the tires......

Some people have 200 or more pounds of dirt in the bed of their pickup.

Have you been on the dealer lots and looked at the payload stickers? It is well know on the rv forums of this downfall of the ram 1500. Hard to find one with more than 1000 lbs payload.

Yep, the 6.4L isn't known for being a good MPG engine. The 6.7 PowerStroke gets 20% better fuel economy.

I own a 2014.

Actually, closer to 1500 lbs heavier.
1 L more displacement
LT tires on each vehicle (both Goodyear Wrangler ATS, but actually wider on the F150) within 10 lbs of each other
1" higher in the air - height doesn't make a hill of beans worth of difference in city driving.

Let's not exaggerate, OK?

And this ain't a Chevy, it's a Ford. I'm just comparing what I have first-hand knowledge with, not something hypothetical.

Diesel has it's place. With today's emissions, driving in the city empty is not where it's going to outshine it's gasser counterparts.

Personally, I'm hoping Ford offers an EcoBoost in the F250 when it's time for me to trade.

You can get real close to a f250 and an ecoboost if you opt for the max payload package. More than 3000 lbs payload in the regular cab. I wanted this option with mine but didn't want the 6.5 bed with the supercrew. Just too long.
