I hope you don't have job box pirates in Idaho.
Not yet. Folks have been mounting them out by the highway, next to the mailbox, for as long as I remember. Mailbox is at the highway, the ranch compound might be miles away. The mailman might bring your packages out, but they wouldn’t leave the pavement. So a tradition, of a parcel box next to the mailbox got started.

Never heard of anyone getting things stolen.

We’ve had an informal “castle doctrine” forever. The county I live in, had the lowest crime rate in the nation back in the seventies. One of the national news magazines came out to interview the Sheriff about it. He told them he figured it was because everybody in the county was pretty well armed, and that the criminals knew that if they did something they deserved to get shot for, he wouldn’t look into it very far.

OK, I get it, local drops are necessary as there often is nobody home to sign, but a note is intended to be left.
Does anyone require signing for packages anymore (other than, a registered/certified letter)? I haven't had to for years.

I haven't either. The drivers are stretched out enough without coming here twice. I may have signed a letter at some point waving the signature requirement but don't remember.
I've even stopped when I saw the driver on the road if I knew that I was getting a package.

EDIT:
I may have signed a letter at some point waiving the signature requirement...

Some products still require a signature, alcohol, some medicines.

You don't need a signature to buy alcohol in New Orleans, just cash or a credit card.

You don't even need that if you are a good looking woman.
Delivered by UPS or FedEx,
also some higher dollar items the vendor may require a signature.

"You don't even need that if you are a good looking woman."
That would not surprise me 😎

Depends on what is in the package, and how much it costs. Just got a new camera - had to physically sign for it.

Fedex and UPS do on occasion for high value items, and if the shipper requires it.

Lawyers like to send signature required. Then they just pass the cost on to their client so probably not too concerned with the cost. PIA if you’re the recipient.

My employer sends me computers & phones with no signature required, pretty surprising... haven't lost one yet, nor anything else shipped (though one shipper lied about delivering a package for a month, but that's different).
