USPS Tracking...

I have noticed on my last two package deliveries (both this past week) that the tracking system entries do not show any departure scan info, but they do show the arrival scans at the various USPS facilities. Maybe skipping the departure scans is an attempt to speed things up to get through the current backlog. Or maybe something else.

Yesterday's package was shipped with "Priority 2-Day" but it arrived 10-11 days after it was sent.

The news last night showed a line of tractor trailers around the block, waiting to get into a USPS facility in northeast Ohio. The trucks are full loaded with mail and packages. They said some drivers have waited all day and can't even get off the street yet. The building is overflowing with mail so they can't take more. A complete overload of the system, with no way to handle that sort of volume.

I'm going to guess that the Porch Pirate problem is the worst in the middle class suburbs?

I'm sure it's more prevalent in neighborhoods where houses don't have porches. Now maybe in some parts of the country porches were never common, but they are a place to leave packages that are somewhat out of sight to passersby, as opposed to just leaving them on the front steps.

I could not see myself living where ultrarunner lives, where you can steal packages off peoples porches with no consequences, yet you'll get a fine for cutting down a tree or putting trash in the wrong bin.

Yes relative. Middle class is a function of the lens you are viewing. Someone's 'private' porch should be domain. Makes me want to defend it more. I could ramble on..: but why I should have to.

I like the idea of the exploding dog poop decoy box myself. It would serve the thieves right. Hmmmm...maybe indelible ink?

Back to "rant on shipping" for a bit:

Mailed priority ENVELOPE on the 14th.
Today is the 19th.
Tracking shows after 4 days it had traveled only 170 miles.

Only 1140 more miles to destination.
At current travel rate, envelope should arrive on January 15th,.... after 32 days of travel.
If I had only known,.....I would have saved the $8.50 priority postage, and just mailed that envelope first class,.... last June!

The fundamental difference between where porch pirating is common and where most people on this forum live is likely the ability to see the houses from public roads. Our driveway is over 1000 feet, no porch pirating here. Not to say that it will never happen, but much less likely.

Yes, the crazy no consequences for committing a crime concept is nuts, but lets not get the thread locked.

Peter,
Today is the 19th.
I have one enroute, that was mailed to me on December 2nd from Sandston. Va.
Is now sitting in Providence (100 miles away), and has been for 4 days so far, after sitting in Springfield (170 miles) for 4 days prior.

649 miles, and 17 days of travel. and still 'ain't' here yet!
38 miles per day, so far!
The Pony Express did WAY better than that!

Why would a thread need to be locked when concerning the theft of mail or packages?
In my era, mail theft was a federal crime!
Are federal crime discussions censored on this forum?
