You guys are making me glad that I don't use a pillow. Yet if your 83 YO mother wanted it, how many wouldn't try to oblige her?

One can easily pay more than double for a goose down pillow.

BIG quality difference between goose down (not feathers) and little hunks of soft foam.

Grandmother made all her pillows from down from her geese.

Mom will be 87 in a couple of weeks... she likes the pillow so far but good chance she would have liked any new one... she said she went right to sleep...

We have been doing several Apple Steps walks as long as 5 miles but more like 3 when trails have mud... Flights of stairs the number is 34...

No idea the accuracy of Apple Steps but it is interesting to follow...

Each walk we see open discarded Amazon boxes...

Amazed who many strangers to me know mom by sight and or name...

Rant on shipping. I got a notice today stating that I owe the IRS $979 for not having health insurance... in 2017. To avoid interest I must pay the full amount Before December 3, 2020

Funny thing, I had health insurance in 2017 but neglected to check the box. I was in the process of getting it squared away, and mailed the form they had asked for when the government shut down...
apparently it got lost in the cracks. I tried to call but got a recording stating that "due to the large number of calls, we are unable to help you." The last time they made an error it cost me $5000 because "The IRS doesn't make mistakes"

I'm done trying to do my taxes myself. it's pretty bad when I can mess up their "Simple" form... even worse when they make it nearly impossible to straighten out.

I have not done my income tax for at least 50 years.
Several problems have arisen over those years, but my CPA has always taken care of them.

I've always filed short form, and when I'm simply filing with a W-2 I never liked that $150 CPA bill. I should have learned my lesson though...
in 1993 I filed short form. I was moving around a lot and after a few years my copy of the return disappeared. Most tell you that you only need to save them for 3 years anyways. In 1998 after filing for the previous year, I suddenly got a notice stating that I owed for 1993... . The IRS claimed that I had filed my taxes 4 years late and while they couldn't produce a copy of the return, they did send me a copy of the transcript. It took me a while to figure out what had happened but somebody keypunched a "1993" instead of "1997". The IRS is never wrong though, so I ended up giving them $5000 including penalties and interest on money which I never earned.
I have an appointment at the end of the month, and while I'm there I may have them go through my last 7 years of returns.

On a more positive note than my previous two posts, the Postal Service has actually been delivering ahead of schedule lately. An order which I placed on Sunday arrived yesterday; an order which they expected to deliver next Tuesday arrived at the distribution center this AM and most likely will be delivered tomorrow. Everywhere I go I see FedEx and UPS trucks; while it's bad for local businesses it is creating jobs for delivery services.

I had done my taxes and turned it over to a CPA... a few years in I get a request to furnish a long list of forms.

My CPA sent them all in blank except with zeros and my name...

That was 21 years ago.

I said would it not be simpler to write a letter explaining the forms are not applicable.

CPA said no... a real person would have to read the letter... by sending in the forms requested with information requested which was all zeros... IRS will have what it wants... and so it was.
