Rant on shipping

Fedex did another dropped at front door. No truck came by and the scavenger hunt found nothing.
NorthernTools was kind enough to send me another, which this time made it to front door.

I had a package last year that was a rectangular box,
it was supposed to hold the intermediate clutch shaft for a Farmall H.
About 15-20 inches long and a 5 pound steel shaft,
the Post Office delivered an empty box with one end hanging open.
I'm amazed at the number of times items like this are poorly packed. Just thrown in a random box with little or no packing material. It's surprising as much of this stuff makes it intact as it does.

I had two chain saw bars come in empty packages. They put tape on the ends, which the bar cut through and fell out somewhere. Guess they never thought a thin metal edge could cut through tape .

And on the other hand I ordered an $8 grabber bar from Humana and it came in a very heavy duty cardboard box 24" by 24" by 10" packed in bubble wrap and inside another heavy duty cardboard box 25"X25"X12" with free shipping.

I am sure the packing and shipping cost more than the item.

I ordered an offset O2 Sensor tool. It was mailed in a plain brown paper envelope. Envelope arrived empty with a split in the bottom. Told Amazon the package arrived missing the item and to replace. They sent a return label for me to send back the missing item. Go figure! I chalked up that $10 loss as "Win Some, Lose Some". Glad I mostly "Win"!

I did send the empty Saw Bar package back to Amazon.
They told me the package was empty. I told them that is why I asked for a refund.
Not the brightest, but they paid for return shipping and gave me no choice.
Got my refund though.

I would have sent the empty envelope back, using the return label.

I once sold an aircraft strut to a fellow in Vancouver and shipped from Montreal.
(A strut is an oval aluminum tube about 10 ft long.)
I gambled.
Taped the shipping info onto the bare strut and shipped unwrapped and un boxed.
My thought was being very light and rigid they would simply toss it on top of the load.
That arrived A-OK.

Now UPS has developed a bad habit.
We use those wheeled trash drums around here that you drag out to the roadside for automated pickup.
Well UPS has decided that tying your package to the trash bin is considered 'delivered'.
Maybe OK if you go to the bins every day, but who does that.

^^^^^
Hopefully they do that AFTER the bins are emptied.

Around here anything on those bins is considered outgoing trash and free for the taking. I do not use curbside service but lots of people who have too much to fit inside a dumpster pile things on top.

My son has had 2 packages not show up that UPS claims they delivered. He’s works from home, so is seldom away. Maybe porch pirates . So far he’s out a few hundred.

so he's out the $ for the product that was never delivered?

Seems to be an interesting legal question.

That's common. Apparently once they drop a package off you own it. Some vendors will come good on it though.

I don't think I posted this here before, my apologies if I have.
This is what I put up with, either don't give a rats a$$, another 15 ft is too far to walk or can't read English, last is what gets my vote. To add insult to injury, this is the pic I get from Intellicom saying the parcel has been delivered. Las time they walked back down the steps, thru a gate and put the package at the other door......Mike

Unfortunately not and we have a 3 bin system so the odds are that any day there is a bin by the road.
Making it worst you can't see the bins from the house as we have long drives.
The upside is that practice of porch theft is not a practice around here yet.

BUT stealing catalytic convertors is very common.
LEO's don't even want to make reports anymore either and in many cases replacement is running in the $1000. plus range. (diesel powered RV's)
Any overnight parking (like a hospital) is a prime target.
Friend has an RV storage facility that has been hit frequently.
Heck even outdoor in front of your house is a targeted area now.

Camera surveillance is next to useless as perps all wear face masks and hoodies and their vehicles usually bear stolen plates. (or illegibly muddied)
With battery sawsalls theft is about one minute per convertor.

I still am amazed that is not shut down at the scrap end where these guys take the converters.

Agreed. If there were no market for stolen converters, they would move on to something else. Up here, they will drill a hole in your gas tank to fill a jug and just let the rest run out on the ground. Nothing worse than thieves!

Why do you suppose they would read the sign?
Some of my deliveries just get close enough to throw the package at the door, 15 feet or so.
