Ratchet Rake - ever seen/used one?

That is the paper that comes with the rake, as with most simple attachments, I think there is a certain 'understanding' that the buyer knows simple physics of how to utilize the attachment.

I bought a brand new BX2660 on June 27th, now a week later, and 20+ hours put on the tractor, about 14-16 of those using the rake, I have it figured out fairly well, and I cannot imagine not having this attachment for the multitude of work I have already put it through. I'll post some before/after pictures as I finish the tree/bush removal of our back 3+ acres behind the new house.

StrangeRanger,

There is no reason that you can not take a piece of 3/8 in or 1/2 in angle and cut the teeth out. Then just bolt it on your bucket.

That was my original thought... but I don't have the tools needed to do that. And if I have a local metal fab shop do it I have to wonder if it won't end up costing the same amount or more for a one-off custom job like that. Hmm...

Still, $299 + $50 bucks shipping is pretty steep. Gonna have to ponder this some more I guess.

Well I have no problem with trying to save some dough here and there, but I also would mention that the ratchetrake has worked as it is advertised, and I think I will find 10x more uses for it then the $300+ 60" landscape rake I purchased... Again, just my two cents, but I'm not sure of who else on TBN has logged the hours with the tool yet aside from me to have similar praise, or contrasting disappointment. I agree the price seemed steep, but I have zero regrets, and Barbara from this small LLC has been nothing short of suburb to deal with.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not belittling the product or their service at all. I love to see small start ups like this. That's one of the reasons I posted the thread to begin with. I will very likely end up suckin' it up and purchasing one too, but I think their pricing is way out of whack.

I'd still love to hear some more feedback from other new owners.

One of my (many) weaknesses is that I have no idea how much somehting costs to make. I have no experience in fabricating at all. But I now own a Ratchet Rake. And when I look at it, I really didn't think the price was too bad. The steel is 3/8' thick, and I know steel is expensive. The teeth are precisely cut, maybe on a flow jet, and I KNOW those suckers are expensive, 'cuz we have one at work. The press used to bend it can't be cheap. The same goes for fabrication of the welded-on tabs. Then someone has to weld that sucker together. Then make the wooden shipping gizzie, and buy the straps.

The I look at what I hope it will allow me to do, stuff I've been pondering over how I was going to get it done before this thing came along...

All in all, I think it was 300 bucks well spent.

But your mileage may vary...

I called the folks at Ratchet Rake, and they said you could purchase a bolt on unit, with out straps, and save about $35.00.

Ok, I can't resist... I've ordered one.

It's been raining for about ohhhh a month straight here in VT, so hopefully it stops by the time it arrives. And after a few days for things to dry out and the mud to set I'll be sure to post some pics and reviews.

I can see where a bolt on version might work better but to me it would be a real PITA to take it on and off.
I'm in a holding pattern per the budget dept since I just bought a Woods landscape rake 2 weeks ago.
