Ratchet Rake - ever seen/used one?

Bit the bullet this morning. Paypal info with shipping address is streaking through the information highway now. Just checked email before "Submit Reply" and the streaking info has landed. The web site also now shows that they send the cover for the strap with each order.

Hello JOHN THOMAS,

You sent a payment of $349.00 USD to RatchetRake@comcast.net

It may take a few moments for this transaction to appear in your account.

Thanks John for the info on the Cordura wear pads for the straps. I just emailed Barbara and Brad to see how I can get a set since I ordered mine before they offered them.

Have fun with the new rake!

Tod

Tod, that is what I had mentioned in a previous post here as well, they sent me new straps and the pads. I had them in under 2 days. Honestly haven't used them though, since I already had bought chain length for the bottom connect anyway.

I saw your post a couple of weeks ago about the pads but thought they may still be in a beta test phase and not offered to all customers yet. I hadn't been back to their website until John mentioned that he got the pads standard with his order.

UH, I just now realized that there are like 11 pages to this thread, this info has probably already been provided.

I emailed Barbara at Ratchet Rake on Sunday morning and received the below response Sunday night. I will be going with the upgraded cables when they are available. There are times I need to use the heel of the bucket to drag the ripped out brush to an area that I don't want to tear up.

We would be happy to send you the cordura wear pads at no additional cost. Shortly we are planning on adding a pair of steel cables with connecting shackles as an upgrade over the cordura (which we will recommend to operators that find it necessary to drag the heal of the bucket-although our video and instructions show primarily one method of use, we are aware that some operators will develop individual techniques to accomplish their specific tasks). We plan to charge an additional $10.00 for the pair of cables. Similar cables with looped ends are sold as lifting slings and typically cost around $20.00 each. Please email us if you want the cordura pads now, or want to wait about a week or so for the cables.

I don't mean to be obnoxious, but I still can't tell the difference between this thing and a landscape (york) rake. Is it meant to be sort of a cheaper landscape rake?

A landscape rake doesn't have the ability to rip out nasty brush, briars, etc as this rake does. On the ratchet rake's website, they have a good video of what this rake can do, if you haven't already seen it.

Your not being obnoxious if you have a valid question. Obnoxious would be if you said this is the same thing as a landscape rake. I have both now. I haven't used my Ratchet rake yet but have used the landscape rake alot. This goes on front bucket so it's as controllable as the front bucket is. It can have down pressure provided by the bucket arms. It has a set of fine teeth and a set of wider teeth. You can drive into "stuff" and aggresively attack it. You can push with it as well as pull with it. It is 2 to 3 time thicker metal than my landscape rake. It's not flexible like the landscape rake whether that's good or bad depends on what you want at the time. The landscape rake goes on 3ph with only it's weight as the down force. It's behind the tractor and follows where the tractor goes. It has one spacing between tines/fingers. Not sure I didn't pay about the same for each one. Had the landscape rake a long time so not sure how much I paid for it. I have both now and want to keep both.
