Tractor
Kubota L3130DT
I have a Kubota l3130 DT with loaded R4s. With a set of Everything Attachments forks on the front and no implements on the rear does anyone know the Weight ditribution by %? I need to load it on my trailer with a log spltter near the tongue and can't get the tractor as far forward as usual. The rear wheels are behind the trailer axles. Although there is still positive weight on the ball of the truck I have no idea how much. I hate to have it swaying all over on the 3 hour trip. I'm thinking I need to put the tractor on backwards.

Perhaps a photo would be helpful. That's a hard one to judge, or give hard numbers. Can you load the splitter on the tail of the trailer, and get the tractor forward? Short of that, you could pull it around locally and get a feel for how it's distributed. If it's going to walk, you'll find out pretty quickly.

I was feeling that having the splitter up against the front rail was more secure. I wish I had a scale to weigh the tongue either way. Just by way of the size of logs I can lift with no removable counterweight makes me think those filled tires are way heavy. It seems like 60% to 40% rear to front but never checked.

I always back mine onto the trailer. That way, the wind turbulence at highway speeds won't blow the hood up and destroy it.

Also, with a cab on mine, I figure a rear window is cheaper to replace than a windshield if a rock gets kicked up and hits it.

Thanks. I guess I'll flip it around and see how it does.

What do you suppose the trailer gross is with that load? Maybe 5-7k? I'm seeing from 10%-15% tongue weight recommended.

You could do an experiment measuring the hitch height with a tapemeasure so your vehicle springs become a scale. You could climb up on the tongue to use your known body weight to calibrate it. Decide what tongue height indicates the right balance and then move things to achieve that.

i flipped it around and was so happy that I did. There was a bit of porpoising but not crazy. Normally I can center the tractor and it rides very smoothly. I could tell that when it was on facing forward there was more squat on the rear wheels of the trailer.

I use a small hydraulic scale by Sherline to weigh the tongue. You could also read up on using a bathroom scale and some lumber.
