Razor Blades and Wal Mart

ya know- theft is getting crazy..

I was at a small gas station by the interstate tonight.
and the attendant told me some one had walked out with 2 sausage dogs!

Now when someone steals food, that is bad!!!

Time was, in retail, loss prevention was maintained by well trained employees (being vigilant), being properly staffed, and providing good customer service. Now it's security tags and locked up merchandise.

In the SF Bay area it used to be that the higher-end department stores used video cameras that could tilt, pan, and zoom in to catch shoplifters. Then someone figured out that the operators were "profiling" customers and only following the ones most likely to steal.

Big stink, lawsuits, now they have equal opportunity video and catch fewer people...

Honestly, Ive grown tired of these multiblade profit making razors:eek: so im going oldschool.

I am getting a little tired of this too. I am thinking of going with the cheap bic or oldschool razor. Just have to shave a little slower.

Used an electric years ago, then one day received a free razor in the mail, tried it and liked the fresh feeling the razor gave.

I just buy a bag of disposables every few months. They're only a couple bucks when on sale. Use 'em until they're dull and toss them. I cannot feel any difference between a dual or triple blade disposable and an expensive razor.

I've been using the twin-blade Gillette disposable razors for as long as I can remember. I've used Bics when I can't get anything else. But for me, Bic = nick. With the Gillettes, I shave for a week with a disposable and sometimes longer. I lube my beard with a little handsoap and keep the blades clear of clogs.

The razors do vary in quality. Sometimes I can get almost two weeks on one razor and others do good to last five days. Sam's has a pack of razors (I believe 30 in a pack.) that will last me almost a year. The last ones I bought were something less than $20 per pack. I'm sure my beard is not as tough as some, but it is very full. Unlike many others, I cannot use an electric razor because they chafe my skin far worse than any blade razor. I use my electric razor for trimming only.

BTW: Is Walmart locking up razor blades an exclusive to them? Do drug stores and grocery stores not lock up blades also? I think Walmart would not lock up blades if they were not losing product to shoplifting. That's more of a "customer" problem than a store problem in my opinion.

I couldn't agree more. I don't like lines or looking for some help either, but pick a store and see if there is much of a difference. I lock up my "stuff", my truck, my gates, my house. Keeping up with my "toys" is a PITA, but I try to protect my investments the best I can.

I suppose if I had 5,000 people a day walking through my place, I'd stand guard with the ole 12 gauge. (wonder if that would PO some folks) course they don't have to come over in the first place..

I'll shop where ever I can get what I need..

The local Wally Marts only lock up the more expensive electric razors. All the cheap ones and the regular razors are all still out. For me a decent electric doesn't burn my face as much as a razor, but it sure is not as close a shave. I have threatened to quit shaving altogether, but the wife doesn't seem to appreciate that idea;).
As a comedy note as reported in our local paper last week: Our local Wal mart had a gent walk in carrying a 20 gauge shotgun last week(they don't sell guns in our store:(). He walked around a bit and carried the gun back to sporting goods, found shells and tried them to make sure they fit. He was walking up to check out when the police arrived. Ended up being charged with Public Drunkedness and Felon in possesion of a firearm. The kicker is: None of the employees called the police. A customer flagged down a patrol car as he pulled out of the McDonalds out front. The WM manager had no comment on whether the employees did not notice or just didn't think it was unusual for a man to be walking around the store carrying a shotgun.

I think everyone in my area is locking up the blades. My rant is not about Wal Mart but that razor blades must now be locked up!

My thought is if you need to do this, fine, just make it customer friendly. I should not have to go to the front desk, ask for help, go back to the blades, wait 5 min for someone to come over to help me, then walk with me to the front or have them waiting for me at a register.

I think they need a "lock-up" section in the stores. Everything that needs to be locked up is in that section and those items are listed in plain view. But they must have enough employees in that section to properly distribute those items.

I think it will just be easier to buy the $20.00 bag of disposables and be done with it:D:D

Are you sure it isn't a law in your area, as its a blade?

In CA they lockup spray paint in all shops.

In Home Depot they lock up bolt cutters, they told me they were being stolen a lot.
