Hi Beaverhouse,
If you are an Equine Canada member and run a "full time" horse operation such as boarding stable, breeder, racing stable etc. you are eligible for up to a 23% discount on John Deere products. Other associations are involved too. AQHA and others.

Just google "equine canada members first" and you will get a list of participating members. Sherwin Williams and Dodge are also included. Guess who's products I'll be re-staining the barn with?

The GST thing influenced us a bit in that - why pay GST if you don't have to. You can claim it back if you have a GST number though. We don't. That ruled out tractor models that didn't quite hit the 60 pto hp mark such as Kioti DK65, Kubota M6040, JD 5325, MF3625, 3635. The JD 5425 is 65 pto. The offer says "up to 23% off msrp" depending on model, so I was naturally skeptical about what sort of discount we would actually get. I was surprised that our dealer actually knocked 23% off!

The catch is you don't qualify for low rate JDC financing. You have to weigh the difference between what your best (non-EQ) deal off msrp that the dealer is willing to negotiate (maybe 10 to 12%) and taking low rate financing. Depending on terms, you have to decide which is the better route for you.

Anyway, this put it a lot cheaper than a Kubota M7040 (62 pto hp) - nice but the price practically gave me cardiac arrest. Also, keep in mind, any implements that you order with the tractor at time of purchase, assuming it is over 60 pto hp, are also tax exempt.
Happy hunting:)

Tks for the detailed explanation Heywood....I learn somthing here everyday ! Much appreciated!

What about Doble's? Were they close? Bought a used MF baler a few years back, Larry seemed like a nice guy.

Kubota apparently has spring specials coming out soon. I want to have a look at them.

Re: Canadian Prices

Hi William

I have been speaking to Larry too, you are right, he and his staff are very nice. He's the one who will be calling me once the specials are available.
Josh at Larkin seems more aggressive about makinig a deal. He offered me a new L3400 with loader, loaded tires with inner tubes, 3 range HST, industrial tires, delivery and PST and GST included for $21,000. Larry does not come across as aggressively looking to make a sale. That said, Doble's is reputable place and closest to home and I am a big supporter of shopping locally whenever possible.

Frankly I may buy the L3400 but canoetrpr enlightened me about twin acres used equipment in Wallaceburg. Far, but wowee on deals.

Hey Jimmy,

That is one quality I like in sales people. They know you are gonna buy something, and rather than pressure you they will answetr all your questions, let you licl tiresd, and not scare you off. once you are ready yto buy, you will remember that, and usually return to them.

If Larry treats you well, and you can swing the few extra $$ over buying used, I would buy from him. They will surely take care of you after purchase. You can always ask around too.

I just could not believe that quote so checked out prices in my area. L3400 HST with FEL came in @ $18.5 K so with taxes....yup....$20,905 bucks. That's incredible, you should be able to get another $500 bucks off easy.

Salesman then quoted a new Case DX35 with FEL at an incredible price of $25,600. This same tractor quoted to me 4 years ago when I was shopping went for $29,500. (Included grill guard). Looks like prices are FINALLY starting to fall to reflect the stronger Canadian dollar.

Yep.. makes me want to go for that Grand L with a cab. I'm 5ft 6". I imagine that the bucket is large enough to accomodate me when my wife throws me out into the barn eh?

Re: Canadian Prices

I've bounced the idea around of selling my L3400 privately. I think I would get more in a private sale than on a trade particularly now that prices are on their way down.

That said, I come to my senses quickly and realise that the tractor does absolutely everything that I throw at it and more. At 33, I can easily wait another 10 years for a dream tractor with a cab :)

Re: Canadian Prices

Geez, I was all excited at what I thought was a pretty good price. Thanks for the reality check Kozak.

I will be talking to Doble's further.

No one seems to yet have the spring specials info yet though. Seems like prices may creep down a bit so I am being patient.....(not that I like it though, particularly with muddy spring coming soon).

BTW , looked at JDeere the other day. A 3230 with a solid loader package, block heater, upgraded bucket, ballast box, gear drive is $23,600 CDN price.

Re: Canadian Prices

Jimmy - that JD is a nice deal. Been meaning to reply to your post in the JD forums. I've checked out their machines too. Quite nice.

Of course, its a slippery slope - you sure you don't want to check out a Grand L Kubota as well :)?

Re: Canadian Prices

canoetrpr,

Yeah, that Grand L especially with a CAB would be quite the machine. I was seriously looking at the Grand L series when I was shopping but the Dealership did'nt work out.

I would love to pick up the DX35 with my trade-in but just like you am having a very hard time justifying the expenditure when what I now have does everything I want it to. Dealership is only giving me $10K (sight unseen) for my TC35D with 260 Hrs. There is no way I would sell that cheap after buying for $23K 4 years ago and the relatively low hours on the Tractor. Private would be the way to go. Unfortunately, I will miss the 5 years @ 0% that they have in effect right now till the end of Feb. Literally, a crying shame.

Jimmy,

I think if you can be patient  there will be better deals coming in the next few months. Kubota Dealership indicated same as canoetrpr mentioned, specials just around the corner.

Re: Canadian Prices

Patience is a virtue - agreed. Got another quote on an L3400 HST with loader and it would be basically $19,000 plus tax.

I will sit on my hands. I have seen a lot of good low hours stuff on Agdealer for about $15k lately too. I'm still not convinced that the extra $ for new is completely worth it.

I completely agree. It's a waiting & searching game. I bought my 2001 TC35D in 2004 with 79 hours on it for $23K. A new one at the time would have been closer to $30K. When you include the tax'es your looking at quite a chunk of change. Unfortunately, these type of deals are far & few inbetween. I was going to buy new as older tractors (greater than 1,000 hrs.) commanded too high a price when I found the TC35D.

Good Luck,

You'll Find That Sweet Deal Sooner or Later !

Re: Canadian Prices

I just bought a Massey Ferguson GC2310. It will be delivered middle of next week, weather permitting. It was a 2005 model, and had been sitting on the dealer's lot since he got it. It was his 'demo' model. 143 hours on it, paint faded in some spots (it was sitting outside for most of the time that he had it). He's installing a block heater, doing a service (changing all fluids/filters), and delivering it for $15200+taxes. Because it was never put into service, I'm told that I'm getting a full warrantee on it. (I got them to verify this with Massey Ferguson, though I never got them to put it in writing on the invoice).

For the sake of comparison, the best "cash" price on a brand new GC2310 in my area is $18300+taxes, and the best "cash" price on a new Kubota BX24 in my area is $16800+taxes.

I was considering two other GC2310s that are located in Ontario. I'll include their info here, and save someone else some legwork:

Ron Mahon Equipment Limited, Inverary, 613-353-2626
- used Massey Ferguson GC2310TLB
- used for 40 hours, and then the fellow traded it in a bigger one
- will have more hours on it by now
- asking $15000, but salesguy thought that they might sell it for $14500
- no block heater, and no skid plate
- skid plate: $68.51 plus installation
- block heater: $134.43+taxes+installation
- used 60" midmower, currently on a GC2300 with a loader, that they might include with the GC2310 for an extra $1800
- loader+backhoe are off warrantee (only one year on these items)
- tractor still on warrantee until Sept 22/08
- serial # JRA 20544
- this is a 2006 model

Ray Racz, Twin Acres Equipment
- used Massey Ferguson GC2310TLB
- this was bought in the USA from a dealer
- the previous owner bought it using financing, and lost his job
- has 141 hours on it
- the photos of it make it look really nice (no faded paint)
- asking $14500 for it, price is firm, but includes delivery to GTA
- no block heater, and no skid plate
- block heater: $100 installed
- loader+backhoe have 6 months (or less) warrantee left
- tractor has 18 months (or less) warrantee left
- serial # JPA 25142
- this is a 2005 model

I bought the oldest GC2310, that looked the worst, for a bit more money... and for that extra money I got a full warrantee, from a dealer that is within a reasonable driving distance from me. (The other two tractors were located 8-12 hour return trips away from my place.)

The faded paint wasn't an issue for me because I have no intention of ever selling it. (I add to my equipment collection, and rarely part with anything ). This way it will fit in with the rest of my equipment, which is currently being stored outside :(

Good decision Fred. I too was going to buy a tractor from Ray back in Nov 2006 and have him bring it up to me via Michigan.

For a $1000 more I bought a new B7800 from a dealer in Michigan only 50 km's from me. Full warranty, block heater, loaded tires and 3 Kubota hats and bucket hooks. I saved over CDN $5K from what I would have paid to a Canadian dealer.

My friend, who trailered my B7800 to my house, has a GC2310 and loves it. I was going to buy one as well but thought I needed something a bit larger. I still don't have a backhoe though:(
