Hi Beaverhouse,
If you are an Equine Canada member and run a "full time" horse operation such as boarding stable, breeder, racing stable etc. you are eligible for up to a 23% discount on John Deere products. Other associations are involved too. AQHA and others.

Just google "equine canada members first" and you will get a list of participating members. Sherwin Williams and Dodge are also included. Guess who's products I'll be re-staining the barn with?

The GST thing influenced us a bit in that - why pay GST if you don't have to. You can claim it back if you have a GST number though. We don't. That ruled out tractor models that didn't quite hit the 60 pto hp mark such as Kioti DK65, Kubota M6040, JD 5325, MF3625, 3635. The JD 5425 is 65 pto. The offer says "up to 23% off msrp" depending on model, so I was naturally skeptical about what sort of discount we would actually get. I was surprised that our dealer actually knocked 23% off!

The catch is you don't qualify for low rate JDC financing. You have to weigh the difference between what your best (non-EQ) deal off msrp that the dealer is willing to negotiate (maybe 10 to 12%) and taking low rate financing. Depending on terms, you have to decide which is the better route for you.

Anyway, this put it a lot cheaper than a Kubota M7040 (62 pto hp) - nice but the price practically gave me cardiac arrest. Also, keep in mind, any implements that you order with the tractor at time of purchase, assuming it is over 60 pto hp, are also tax exempt.
Happy hunting:)

Tks for the detailed explanation Heywood....I learn somthing here everyday ! Much appreciated!

Re: Canadian Prices

What about Doble's? Were they close? Bought a used MF baler a few years back, Larry seemed like a nice guy.

Josh at Larkin has given me the best quotes I have had. He's top drawer I think.

Kubota apparently has spring specials coming out soon. I want to have a look at them.

Re: Canadian Prices

Hi William

I have been speaking to Larry too, you are right, he and his staff are very nice. He's the one who will be calling me once the specials are available.
Josh at Larkin seems more aggressive about makinig a deal. He offered me a new L3400 with loader, loaded tires with inner tubes, 3 range HST, industrial tires, delivery and PST and GST included for $21,000. Larry does not come across as aggressively looking to make a sale. That said, Doble's is reputable place and closest to home and I am a big supporter of shopping locally whenever possible.

Frankly I may buy the L3400 but canoetrpr enlightened me about twin acres used equipment in Wallaceburg. Far, but wowee on deals.

Hey Jimmy,

That is one quality I like in sales people. They know you are gonna buy something, and rather than pressure you they will answetr all your questions, let you licl tiresd, and not scare you off. once you are ready yto buy, you will remember that, and usually return to them.

If Larry treats you well, and you can swing the few extra $$ over buying used, I would buy from him. They will surely take care of you after purchase. You can always ask around too.

I just could not believe that quote so checked out prices in my area. L3400 HST with FEL came in @ $18.5 K so with taxes....yup....$20,905 bucks. That's incredible, you should be able to get another $500 bucks off easy.

Salesman then quoted a new Case DX35 with FEL at an incredible price of $25,600. This same tractor quoted to me 4 years ago when I was shopping went for $29,500. (Included grill guard). Looks like prices are FINALLY starting to fall to reflect the stronger Canadian dollar.

Yep.. makes me want to go for that Grand L with a cab. I'm 5ft 6". I imagine that the bucket is large enough to accomodate me when my wife throws me out into the barn eh?

Re: Canadian Prices

I've bounced the idea around of selling my L3400 privately. I think I would get more in a private sale than on a trade particularly now that prices are on their way down.

That said, I come to my senses quickly and realise that the tractor does absolutely everything that I throw at it and more. At 33, I can easily wait another 10 years for a dream tractor with a cab :)

Re: Canadian Prices

Geez, I was all excited at what I thought was a pretty good price. Thanks for the reality check Kozak.

I will be talking to Doble's further.

No one seems to yet have the spring specials info yet though. Seems like prices may creep down a bit so I am being patient.....(not that I like it though, particularly with muddy spring coming soon).

BTW , looked at JDeere the other day. A 3230 with a solid loader package, block heater, upgraded bucket, ballast box, gear drive is $23,600 CDN price.

Re: Canadian Prices

Jimmy - that JD is a nice deal. Been meaning to reply to your post in the JD forums. I've checked out their machines too. Quite nice.

Of course, its a slippery slope - you sure you don't want to check out a Grand L Kubota as well :)?
