I thought it might be useful to start a list of things to do to get our tractors ready for the winter season, before its too late and things get overlooked by procrastination.
I'll start.
I just decided to check out my battery condition and found that even though I had coated the posts and cable ends with the red spray post conditioner there was significant corrosion on the post ends. (This might be due to the tractor having sat since July through to nearly Oct. with no use. Next time I might disconnect the battery before a long storage period...)
This can be a real problem with cold starting and starting in general on the Kioti tractor line.
So I removed the cables, ground first and + last. Then, wearing safety glasses, I used a baking soda solution to clean out every little bit of corrosion between the bolt and the clamp. I used a post brush and cleaned each post until it was bright new metal. I filled each hole to the split ring with water, (distilled is best), and cleaned the entire battery top surface carefully and reinstalled the caps.
I used the felt rings and installed black on neg and red on +. Then I coated the posts with copper anti-seize and put the cables back on, first + then neg. I then sprayed the posts and cable clamps with the red spray to seal out and deter further corrosion. Job done!
