Buying Advice Ready to buy, advice needed

Hi everyone. Long time lurker first time poster. Never owned or even operated a tractor other than test drive them. I have 53 acres and I have to cut approx. 34 acres of it which is mostly gently sloping pasture. Looked at and test drove a L3540hst at my local dealer, he recommended it for my purposes. He said matched with a 6 foot cutter I should be able to cut all the fields in 4-5 hrs. Not too sure about that. With a LA724 loader I was quoted 24,700. To order a L3940 hst he wants $2400 more. Another 2K for a Bush Hog SQ172 cutter. I'm in central NY, from what I've read the % off MSRP isn't too great here. Here are my questions - Is the extra $ for the 3940 worth only 3.5 more pto hp? The 3540 is 3 cylinders vs the 4 cylinders of the 3940 if that matters. Is the price too high considering MSRP of the 3540 is 26,670 or is this reasonable for NY? Overall what do you think of this package including the cutter. This dealer is pretty close to me and they seem like really nice people, so I have to take that into consideration. Thanks

Some numbers I was given:
Not sure if tires are loaded on this quote.
L3540, R4, QA loader => $24,100
L3940 add $1200
L3240 subtract $1100

Local dealer here has L3540-1 and L3540-3 on the lot. -1 doesn't have swival seat, and the loader lock is different.

The differences between the -1, -2, & -3 was a tough thing for me to nail down before deciding what to get. I believe it was Kubota Tee who posted the best explanation. My understanding is that the L??40 is the updated L??30 series. Then came the -1 which was the emmissions update, then -2 the ROPS height reduction. -3 is the latest revision & is the swivel seat, electrically actuated PTO switch, & the addition of the PTO to the Stall Guard feature.
I ended up going with the L4240HST-3. The Kubota build site showed the same list prices whether it was a -1 or -3. I ordered mine through Brady and would do so again. I have good local dealers but they were reluctant to order a -3.
The 3940 vs. 4240 question came down to loader capability for me. I could probably have gotten by with the 724 loader but not being certain, I decided to buy some margin. That also gave me a little more power & the beefier front axle. I think the height & other dimensions are the same. The choice of tires may change the height from the specs and as Grandad4 says, measure one with the tires you're selecting. I thought I'd be able to get in an 8ft. door with the ROPS up but with R1 tires I'm 1-2" too tall. I've got plenty of clearance with it down.
Good luck with your decision they are both good and you'll be happy with either.

Those prices are within a $100 of the deal we got locally on the -3 L3940.
The dealer we went with had one -2 left and we could have $250 and he had
three -3's still in the crates, we decided on the -3 mainly for the swivel
seat. Figured it might be of use for me because I've had spinal fusion and
my rotation ain't what it used to be.
