Richards post about Real Estate signs prompted me to post my own. Within the last year a new practice has developed on my street. When a Realtor lists a home for sale anywhere on the eight mile stretch of my road, they post a full size sign at the corners of the major intersections. This sign may be miles away from the actual home for sale, but I guess its supposed to alert buyers that there is a home for sale on the road somewhere.
These signs are the large semi-permanent 6x6 timber type that have to dug into the ground. Last summer these signs were competing for position and the whole thing really looked like a mess. The signs do not reference any specific address but do have a company and agent name.
The lastest sign to go up has been placed firmly in front of the sign that welcomes folks to our community.
I think I'll call the City and see what they think. Its been there a week or more and I really expected the DPW to take it down by now.

It is called pollution and littering.

Try that angle.

Some states/counties/government bodies have rules on signage longevity and removal.

Often it takes a complaint to get any action. Then the govt. employees have someone to blame their action on, as heaven-forbid they would act on their own volition (and in their defense, they may not have noticed). Look for any that block your view of oncomming traffic at intersections. That might help the argument. Also look for signs of 'diggers hotline' to nail the offenders. And call each of the agencies putting the signs up.

Jerry....
I'm in Canada but my thoughts would be that the local real estate association has rules & regulations that would apply to signage. I'm a realtor & signage here is regulated by our association. Of course there is always abusers in any business but I think a complaint to the real estate association will get more action than to any town/government department. HTH

You may be right. I notified the city and the supervisor seemed very interested, but after three days . . . no action !

I guess I should do that, but I'm hoping to not reveal my name to these folks. That way, if they don't remove the sign, they won't know who's big blue shovel knocked it down /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

A sign that large ought to have some good lumber in it... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Just a few questions. Is the sign that welcomes folks to your community also on your property? If so who put it there? Is the community / town paying you to have it there? Does the community / town have any right of ways to post signs near the road on anyones property? Most communities / towns etc. do have a right of way within x amount in feet from the road centerline. Usually any signs posted near a town or county road have to be approved by the town if they are within x feet of the road. I'd call the town first to see if they approved the realtor to put a sign up and if so ask them what local laws are regarding signs. Then I'd call the realtor and either ask for payment (rental space) since the sign is on your property and see how fast they move it. Or the sign could accidentally be knocked over by you tractor.
