Real or Scam... Economic Impact Payment Card?

My 94 yo Mom got a debit card last week I thought was a scam, so I told her and her c as caregiver take by Mom's bank.
They did and on the card was $567?!?
Never understood that weird amount but it was first money Mom ever got from Gov't.
My deposit was for the full $600. Perhaps your mom lives in a state with an income tax. Just a guess since something was deducted from the flat distribution. :confused3:

Sounds like retirement is a killer!
You know what I mean. Pay many $thousands in...then where does the money go? To be fair the spouse or person's estate should receive it, at least amount person paid in (at least close).
Lots of people retire and their job was their life. Me I retired at 62 and took my SS (I'm too embarrassed to say how little it is!) My wife took hers at 62...a few $hundred!
How people can survive living only on their SS I'll never understand and my heart goes out to them.

It goes to the people that never work here (USA) but collect money from the system........

In the first round, the IRS deposited our payment directly to the checking account tied to our return. This time my wife got the Debit Card but I didnt. I checked the IRS Get My Payment site and they state they dont have enough information on me to issue. Go figure.

I was getting that message also... then last Friday I got a notice claiming that I owe $949 from 2017 because I didn't carry health insurance. Actually I did, but neglected to hit that little checkoff box when filling out my return. I was in the process of fixing that 2+ years ago when the government shut down... I thought that I had it straightened out but it took them 2 years to tell me otherwise. Past experience is that I will pay no matter what... the last time they made a mistake it cost me $5000. (Keypunch error showed my 1997 income for 1993... the IRS doesn't make mistakes.)

You remind me just why I need to hug my CPA!

Unemployment is insurance, not an entitlement. Your employer, not you pays into it. If he gets a lot of claims it costs him more money, which can and does have an effect on hiring practices and decisions.

Absolutely it impacts wanting to hire employees. We won’t hire anyone unless it’s absolutely necessary. Not maybe - but absolutely necessary.

If I recall, when you take SS before age 68 the government holds back something like 7% for each early year. In you and your wife's case, your benefits may have been cut by 42% each.

For heath reasons, I had t take mine a couple of years early. That was a hard hit but not as bad as some. I plan on getting them back by living longer.

I have heard a few stories of people who threw their EIP debit card in the trash thinking it was just another junk mail item. They were not SOL however. The EIP website allowed them to apply for a replacement card.

Yep... it was my first thought too as credit card like things always arriving in mail...

Last year mom got a paper check which was quickly deposited... her supplemental insurances have gone up a lot... thankfully she is in excellent health except for memory...

Most days after lunch we go for a 3.5 mile loop up and down some steep hills... 28 flights is what Apple Steps indicate.

So I'm thinking if I received in error I will have to pay mine back? Thinking error because nothing in 2020...

Mom's total income is just under 30k so not worried about hers...
