Sorry, I should have qualified that question. I was not asking in direct reference to your truck and the boat that you just towed.

It was more a general question, not truck or trailer specific.

You guys are going way overboard here.

No offense taken. You are right though, raising a truck a bunch changes the handling dynamics. Changing tire size is like changing gear ratio and this can in effect change the drive-ability.

what was the "seat of the pants" feel...

tended to push you around? had the brake controller turned all the way up to compensate?

i could feel the cross wind?

Truck pulled like a dream.

It has surge disc brakes so no brake controller although I have one installed in the truck.

Only white knuckle moment was when I was in Lexington heading North on I-75 between a semi and a Greyhound Bus. I think the bus driver was tired because he was all over his lane. 3 lane road. This boat is a wide load, not bad but 9'.

I am not a repo man. I bought it from the bank though a repo man/boat RV dealer. I will use it personally for a year or so then sell it as I do from time to time.

Chris I didnt mean to start a debate about it. Though it always does somehow on here I just know you have the other eqipment from reading on here that are more than suited to the task. You never struck me as the kind that you would push a little pickup that hard just to say I did it. Just glad you made the trip okay good luck with the Titan

I would take newer 1/2 ton over a 15 year old Gas 3/4 ton any day of the week. But that is just me I guess.

Hey Chris. Thanks for the thread. I've wondered how the Titons pull. We ended up going with the Tundra and haven't had any regretts. When we do the shows in Eastern Washington we pull around 8500# between cattle and trailer and have been getting a pretty consistant 13.4MPG. Our one long road trip with just us, the truck, and the kids we got 19.9MPG.

I definately have to agree with you about the new vs older trucks and their ability.

Nissan does what most truck makers are doing with 5 and 6 speed autos. The put in tall gears in the diff, like 3.36 in the Nissan. They put lower gears in the Tranny 1st gear and claim this is equiv to a 4:10. Obviously the manufactures have done their homework but this does put more torque onto the U-joints. The key is, how comfortable the run was. IE if it pulled well but you were white knuckled, then probably too much towed load. If you arrived relaxed and still smiling, then probably is a good fit for your trucks capacities.

I don't think I understand some of the advice given by people. I could come on this website, and say I have a single axle trailer, and I want to haul 500 pounds of lumber on it. What kind of truck should I get? I'd get a dozen people saying anything less than a 1 ton diesel would be pushing it, and that single axle trailer isn't big enough, I need a triple axle trailer with 4 tires per axle to haul a load like that. Then I'd post a picture of my brand new diesel truck with this huge trailer towing my 500 pounds of lumber, and get blasted with another 30 posts saying I didn't have my load tied down correctly.

This isn't Chris's first time towing a boat, he figured the weight of the boat, and it was within the weight limits of the truck. I think we can trust his judgement on if this was a safe load or not for his truck.
