Nissan does what most truck makers are doing with 5 and 6 speed autos. The put in tall gears in the diff, like 3.36 in the Nissan. They put lower gears in the Tranny 1st gear and claim this is equiv to a 4:10. Obviously the manufactures have done their homework but this does put more torque onto the U-joints. The key is, how comfortable the run was. IE if it pulled well but you were white knuckled, then probably too much towed load. If you arrived relaxed and still smiling, then probably is a good fit for your trucks capacities.

Toyota doesn't cheat on the gearing; their 5.7 towing package comes with 4:30 differential gearing, 1:1 4th gear, and two overdrives. I can't imagine a better towing half-ton and I get what I consider good mileage empty

I don't think I understand some of the advice given by people. I could come on this website, and say I have a single axle trailer, and I want to haul 500 pounds of lumber on it. What kind of truck should I get? I'd get a dozen people saying anything less than a 1 ton diesel would be pushing it, and that single axle trailer isn't big enough, I need a triple axle trailer with 4 tires per axle to haul a load like that. Then I'd post a picture of my brand new diesel truck with this huge trailer towing my 500 pounds of lumber, and get blasted with another 30 posts saying I didn't have my load tied down correctly.

This isn't Chris's first time towing a boat, he figured the weight of the boat, and it was within the weight limits of the truck. I think we can trust his judgement on if this was a safe load or not for his truck.

Amen Brother.

I don't claim to be a professional hauler, but I can say that sometimes, some posts are just crazy.----

I just wrote a lot, but I deleted it as I should keep my mouth shut.

Great post, made me laugh.

Edit, Tractorboy beat me to the CDL line. Still a great post though.

You guys are going way overboard here. You seen the picture of the truck, its not lifted sky high. It has a 2" lift, not a 8" lift. Its still running the same GVWR and I guarantee you that its was under that towing this load. I have had the truck weighed with me in it. I have about 1,400# of payload with 3/4 tank of fuel and me in the truck. The boat had maybe 800# of tongue weight. As for the tires they are load range D. Plenty for that 1/2 ton truck.

Where is LB when we need him.:DChris

I decided not to get involved on this one .

You hit that spot on. Best laugh I've had all day.

I just reread my post, sorry if I came off as a smart *****, that wasn't my intention. We all know that Chris can be a little biased:), but he came on here and gave a honest and unbiased review of how his truck did towing a near maximum load. If we see something wrong with what he did, we all need to speak up, but I get the feeling he is very experienced at towing, so I'm willing to give him the benifit of the doubt.

I never thought he was overloaded, just close to max towing cap. Awhile back I posted a pic of my trailer rated for 25900lbs. I have a 6500lb trailer and a 9500lb tractor on it and about 11000lbs of hay all at one time. So I had about 27000lb load and no one said anything, Almost hurt my feeling because no one said anything about maybe being overloaded, cant say anything about the tie downs, think I had enough tie downs to hold the load if it were upside down. Well maybe. I only move this load for about 10 miles. Ok let me have it. Oh and to make it better, I have a 08 Dodge 4x4 dually.
