Rear Blade Rear blade question

I have seen the county road crews put there belly blades down to the ground to do snow removal, they do it every time. I have heard people saying not to put the rear blade down as it removes or push the gravel to the out side of the road. Why does the county do it?

It really depends on the type of gravel you have on your drive. If it's well compacted mixed stone with 'fines' or dust (like roads), there is very little loose gravel to move. A lot of people top their drives with clean, washed gravel. That remains loose and until it is saturated with packet and frozen snow or ice, it can get curled off with the snow.
