I'm thinking of porting the output (tank return) of an open center control valve for a hydraulic top link to the fluid fill cap...I'll machine a new cap with a pipe fitting port in the center. It's low pressure so I think it should work, but I thought I would get some opinions first. I'll make the cap from delrin and keep it a tight fit in the case, as it the current one. To me this seems easier than putting a tee in the FEL return. Thanks for any feedback

A tee fitting for the FEL tank return costs in the neighborhood of $5 to $7. It sure would be a lot easier and cheaper than machining a new filler cap. In any case, the tank port in a valve with power beyond (your valve does have PB, right?) carries only neutral pressure exhaust fluid. Your solution, although not the easiest or most ideal, will work.

Mad,
Yes, I have power beyond which will be routed back to the rear block. I can get the machining for only the cost of the materials. When I looked at the options, this one gave me a shorter hose run and no "mess" as I would not have to cut into a fluid line. Actually, I'm 50-50 on which way to go.

When I installed rear remote outlets on my B7800 as part of a cab building project, I put a tee in the FEL return line right at the tank port. I found this was a very short run from the remote valves at the right rear cab corner and there was minimal fluid spillage while I made the connection.

I was looking at that location also. Did you remove any sheet metal to get access? It looks a little cramped as far as working room goes.

Attached is how I did it on our B2910 - it's a 90° elbow connected to a 45° elbow hooked to a tee at the tank return. Everything fits nicely behind the plastic shroud, no cutting required. And yes, you are correct - it is a bit cramped in there. HTH.

FYI, I used a tee fitting right at the transmission tank and connected both the loader and aux valve to that tee. I had no problems accessing the area. I have a B2710. Now on the B2910's where you have the cruise control, space can sometimes be an issue. Somewhere back about 3 years or so ago someone posted pics of his B2910 installation. Space was tight.

That does look nice and clean. I'll pull the shroud off and take a look. Does anyone remember what the thread size is for putting a new fitting into the case?

Bill -
I cut 3 holes in the sheet metal under the seat with a 1" hole saw and threaded the 3 hoses (input - from FEL PB, power beyond and tank return ) through them. Actually, it was easier working in there than I expected. (I removed the wheel and set the tractor on a stand). Attached are 2 photos showing the setup. The first photo is from above and the second one is of the tee at the tank taken looking rearward from below. The shiny metal part is the "top" of the tee with the tranny on the right and the return from the FEL on the left. The return from the remote valves goes rearward from the "leg" of the tee and then up through the hole in the floor. If I remember right, the tranny thread is 3/8 NPT, but my tee is 1/2 NPT (requiring adaptors on all 3 sides) because I wasn't able to get a 3/8 tee at the time. Where the hoses go through the holes in the floor, I sleeved them with 5/8 heater hose and sealed around that with caulk.
I hope this helps.
