Ooops! Sorry, I meant ''face cord'', around here we always call it a ''cord'' to make it short. You're right, a real cord is 128 cu.ft.
Aha, got it. Around here, a cord is a cord is a cord. A full load is 11 cords, or a 7 cord logging truck and its 4 cord trailer.
I find the trailer easier to maneuver than a long tractor w/ something stuck off the end. The FEL is off when I head into the trees for wood - it's just not maneuverable enough. I generally go forwards as much as possible and if I can't back up with it, I get off and move the trailer by hand (BEFORE it's loaded, of course.) I get set up so that when it's loaded, I'm driving out forwards. I have a similar distance to drive as you for most trees, although there are several areas where the tractor just won't go.
