I'd be very cautious about performance expectations from a hyd-powered blower without the proper hyd PSI & flow. I'm familiar with some of the Erskine/QA blowers and have a Bobcat blower myself (Erskine clone in many ways). I REALLY wanted to find a way to make such a blower work with a Kubota 5740HSTC but ended-up buying a Bobcat Toolcat. The Toolcat has hiflow hydraulics (27GPM/3000PSI) and I can still bog the blower down in wetter stuff without trying too hard. If I kick hi-flow off (17 GPM, IIRC, on my Toolcat) I might as well resort to a shovel.

If you look at the fan motor on the Erskine/QA you'll notice that it's an Eaton/Char-Lynn motor. Part number probably has a 105 prefix and looks something like 105-xxxx-xx. (BTW, I'm assuming you own or are thinking of owning a used Erskine/QA.) I believe the 105 prefix designates what Eaton calls a "Series 20" motor and you can find the specs online for it to find out what it might do for you. While you are dwelling on hydraulics at this point, don't forget to check out the electrical interface. Hopefully it has the Erskine "pistol grip controller" with cable that you can feed through your cab window. That would get you going until (or if) you want something a little more sanitary in terms of installation.

Good luck to you.

Spudgunner,

You caveat is correct. I spoke with Pronovost/Puma. The rep said that he wanted to make sure that I would not be disappointed with the performance of the front hydro blowers, because some buyers were.

The largest Prince pump/hydro motor match-up will only put out half of the 5030's rate hp, and consequently the blower performance one could expect from 43pto hp would not be forthcoming. He was not trying to talk me out of it, but it was a refreshingly honest performance appraisal from someone who could have just said "sure, buy it".

Because I run a Rhino sub-frame backhoe, I cannot accommodate the Erskine shaft drive front blower (due to the sub-frame.

This points to a 3 point blower, so I am planning on a Puma 84 rear blower.

L3650: "Hydraulic snow blowers are expensive."

So are some others...ouch:

here's a tale: Puma has no in-state reps. I called an out-of-state rep and was quoted $2800, price good until June.

I then called an out of state distributor who uses an in-state dealer, who then called me. For the exact same item, the dealer quoted me $6700 plus $1200 shipping.

My answer was polite but unambiguous.

Yes, the OP is talking about a grapple for the FEL, which requires no more
flow that the FEL itself uses. When you say "most tractor pumps are too
low volume to run a hydrolic motor of any size", be careful. You can buy
hyd motors designed to run with flows of less than 10GPM, as used for
compact tractor implements like PHDs. It is true that many skid steers
offer higher flows, so implements designed for them may expect to have
over 10GPM available. Continuous duty hydraulic power delivery, as for
a mower, and intermittant duty (PHD) are important considerations, too.

I chose my words poorly. When I said "of any size" I was not being literal. I should have said a hydrolic motor of significant size, I appologize for any misunderstanding.

When I looked at skidsteer attachments many of them mentioned 20 or even 30 gpm as a minimum.

I don't know much about hydraulics, but I have 30 pto hp. So using the prince pump that puts out 21 gpm won't be equal to the mechanical hp? How do you rate or compare pto hp to hydraulic gpm or hp?
