Reasons to use Super UDT

/ Reasons to use Super UDT #41
My dealer claims that:

- Super UDT is NOT synthetic, just multi-vis
- That the major difference between regular and Super is the cold-flow properties (multi-vis) of the Super
- That Kubota puts Super in all shipped tractor cores since they have no way of knowing what climate the core may end up in.

I'm not sure how much of this is fact and how much is his opinion, but it does make some sense. He recommends regular for my climate, but is installing Super at my request.

btw, what does UTD stand for ? There was another thread on the topic, but I lost track of it. Just curious, can't afford the stuff anyway, my tractor holds over 20 gal of whatever I put in it.

Thanks Junkman/ Familyman. I think I will just use the Valvoline for another 50 or so hours then start using the super UDT

I noticed today at my service this super udt is what the dealer installed in my tractor.

If you use an inferior oil then the warranty could be voided. While it is true that the manufacturer must honor the warranty when a maintenance item is replaced from a source other than the original manufacturer, it must meet the same or better specs!!

In our race cars/hot rods/trucks/generators/snowthrowers/motocross engines, I always use Mobil 1 or Red Line 100% Synthetic oils. Sometimes right from the start and sometimes after the break-in.
The advantages almost always outweigh the cost penalty; easier starting, lower operating temperatures, more horsepower (documented) and longer engine life. The difference (in reduced friction) is especially noticable with air cooled small engines typically used on generators and snowthrowers. They will start easier, run cooler and run better (more hp).

I cannot determine (yet) whether Super UDT is Synthetic or Mulitgrade but when I change the oil in my BX23, I plan to use Super UDT as the cost difference is only about $11 for 2.5 gals ($22 vs $33) and on a $15K piece of equipment that is insignificant.

Here is a link to Super UDT specs http://www.tractorsmart.com/kubota/kubota_super_udt_fluid.htm

From many years of experience, when doing maintenance, always use the best oil and filters. You will always get longer engine life and better performance.
