Rebuild log splitter valve ?

I have a TSC Huskee log splitter, 22 ton 6.5 briggs, about 3 years old. It came back from loaning with the valve not working right. It won't pop back from auto return, wont feed correct, and moves forward when in nuetral.

My local TSC dosnt carry rebuild kits and is out of stock of new - $ 129.00.

I have never had one apart but can I just hunt down o-rings and rebuild ?

Could It just be a clogged filter?

Your symptons sound like maybe the pressure is too low. Does it split
as strong as it did when you lent it out? Did some one have the valve
apart? Don't think you will find O-rings on the spool. Just close fit in the
valve body. Pressure setting spring may of broken, causing low pressure.
Valve should be repairable if not scored. Pump must be up to par or all
bets are off. Check with last user to see if he made any adjustments or
did anything to it that he shouldn't have. Filters don't usually clog fast.
Pressure setting should be close to 1500# for small home owners splitters
like you have. Good Luck Keep us posted.

Is the handle straight? If it got wacked or bent sideways(strange things happen when wood starts getting tossed around), the linkage could be binding and not returning to it's proper position. It also could be that something has shaken loose on the spring/detent mechanism. The creeping in neutral tells me it is not in neutral. In an open center valve, neutral should be the path of least resistance for the fluid from the pump to pass thru the valve to the tank. Why would fluid leak past a spool and move a cylinder when it has a lower pressure path back to the reservoir unless it is not quite in neutral.
