Buying Advice Rebuild old JD110 or replace?

They were what I could afford at the time. I'm sure a 400 would have done a better job, but would it have done the same job as a zero turn? Because they go for roughly the same money(at least according to the ebay search I just did). And that's why I point people to the used commercial models. There's a point where you can buy an 80s lawn tractor or a 90s zero turn for the same price, my advice is zero turn every time. All other things being equal, of course.

Back in the day of the 111 and 400 there wasn't much of choice in the zero turn market.

I'm...honestly not sure what your point is here.

I was talking about pricing today, as that's when it's relevant to the OP. The person we're supposed to be giving advice to?

Let's recap:

I recommended a used zero turn as best bang for buck and you countered with roughly equal priced lawn tractors, and threw out a comment that I should have bought a higher end model vs the ones I did. Which I couldn't afford at the time. I commented that the 400 is STILL stupidly expensive, and a much better machine can be had today for the same money(zero turn). Then you say the above. I lost the thread of the conversation somewhere, I think.

I started looking for a rear finish mower for my B2910. I found a 60" Del Morino rear discharge finish mower for $1000. But then I started thinking... I never drive my b2910 over my septic tank or leach field, I'd need something else to cut that. Am I being too cautious not driving my B2010 over the septic system?

Maybe? According to Tractor Data, the B2910 weighs about 1800 pounds. That's honestly not that much spread out on four big tires. But it is about double a heavy riding mower. Do you drive your truck over the field? If so, you're not going to do any worse with the tractor. The tank is a borderline situation. I take my L3301 over my septic field but not the tank. That same field has had an Alis 180 over it, so I know that if nothing happened then, it shouldn't now. Then again, I've only gone over it occasionally, not all the time like I was mowing...

I mow over my septic tank with a 2500# tractor ever week. Have done so for 25 years. No problems....Yet.

I have always avoided driving anything on my leach field or tank other than my lawn tractor.

I thought you believed the 111 purchaser should have bought a zero turn back in 1980?

I guess I'd be alright then.

Not all septic systems are the same. My old tank was a pos leaky concrete block tank, I replaced it with a much larger plastic tank. I can ride the x749 over the new tank no problem and it weighs about 1400 lbs. That is not to say you can ride a heavy mower over all tanks. Depends on too many variables.
