Trying to cool off a bit, before I go to finish this, and I'm leaving for Cozumel tomorrow for a week of Scuba diving with 130 of my closest friends so it's not too high on my list of must dos! There is just a tad amount of axial play (<1/32") and absolutely no radial play. The trans moves smoothly and easily with my hand. I made sure all the shims that came out, went back in and in the right place. All that's left is the big wash off, installing the belt, figuring out the spring issue and then cutting some grass. Yeah, it might be best to wait until after Coz to try and finish this up.

The plate was loose. The seal between the plate, o-ring and housing was the problem with oil leaking from that area. I think the input shaft bearing locked up and it spun that front plate, damaging the case. No bearing can fix that plate/o-ring/housing leak. Moreover, the bearings are fine. As I pointed out, there is no radial play and precious little axial play. The real fix will be to change that housing or the whole unit. I can't find either, so I'm doing the next best thing.

The spline grooves on the shaft are perilously close to the seal's lip. You can sand the shaft where the seal lip rides with some emory cloth to help it seal.

have fun, dive safe.
