<font color="black"> </font> Hey,

maybe it is due to the lower RPM's that diesels run at. The last time I was browsing around, I saw a sticker on a 451 that recomended plowing for the first 100 hours to break the engine in properly.

Take care,

Will

My uncle who restores old Ih Farmalls told me that, he never rebuilds the engine due to that esact thing. It has something to do with teh sleeves having to be heat treated for everythgin to seat properly. One thing different about car engines versus tractor engines is there are sleevees in tractors and they run at lower but steady rpms and are a "lugging" type engine.

Plus how many car engines will have the hours on them that some of these tractors get, and remember that the tractor engines for the most past are at peak operating engine speed whereas a car fluctuates, idles, and rarely ever sees it's peak HP rpm range.

Time for another update. Dad finished getting the sleeves out (thanks to a diagram from BigAl for a sleeve puller). He came across another issue that he is correct as well (axle bushing). We don't have any Massey Ferguson dealers close to us and the old guy who dad used to get parts from didn't seem like he wanted to help, however Nathan (known as Gamble77 on TBN) has been helping me get everything together. If all goes well the parts should be ordered from Nathan today. Once the parts are received, we will begin putting them back together.
I also wanted to say how great Nathan was to work with. I had a huge list of questions and he answered each and every one very clearly (which is definitely a big help as dense as I can be sometimes /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif). He gave me a price list complete with tax and shipping. I must have sent him 10 or 15 pm's and each time I sent one, he responded with an answer very quickly with exactly the info I was looking for.
Thanks again Nathan for all of your help and I'll keep you posted on how the rest goes!
