Now that I got the tractor side yoke from the old manure spreader working I need to re-attach it to the cross. My issue is the spring clips that hold the thing together. I have the type that has the spring clips on the outside ends of the caps. The caps are 7/8" dia. I am assuming the 1" clips I found at Lowes will fit. I noticed they are about half as thick as clips made for a PTO. Can I stack two clips together or do I need to keep looking for the correct clips? TSC didn't carry what I need.

Check with your local Napa auto store. I bet they have the proper C clips.

I have noticed people on this list always refer to NAPA to get parts. Is there a big difference between NAPA and Autozone? I am hoping Autozone has these clips since they are more abundant than the NAPA stores around me.

Usually the universal joint kit comes with those. Maybe you didn't require all new joints?
Autozone carries mostly just things for the average DIY mechanic. NAPA carries a much larger selection of "more advanced" things. Not sure that's the right way to word it. I guess you could say Autozone either has something or they don't. With NAPA, it seems like no matter what you need they have a book to find it and they'll get it for you.

I don't need all new parts. I was trying to resurrect and old PTO shaft. The coupler to the tractor was so badly rusted I did not think I could salvage it. A friend of mine got the yoke off the cross then thought he would give the locking pin a try. With some heat and oil he got that working. So I took a file to the splines to remove the rust and now I have a working coupler. Since the caps and cross are fine I just need new spring clips since the old ones were destroyed when removed.

I will cross my fingers that Autozone has the clips. If not I guess I will be packing the kids up for a little ride to a NAPA store on Sat.

NAPA was able to identify the u-joint. It is a precision 853. The problem is no one will sell me spring clips with out getting the whole joint. $45 for a set of spring clips just seems pretty steep. I also tried an independent tractor dealer and he only sold whole units also. So TSC is the only place I have found that sells just spring clips but they don't carry ones for 7/8" caps.

check to see if you have a driveline shop any where close to you they probobly have them laying around give them a couple of bucks to buy a soda and they will more than likely give them to you.

I will check to see about a drive line shop but I have it together with a couple clips from Lowes. Is there any reason they wont hold?
