I never heard of A/C on an aftermarket compact tractor cab. I do not mean to sound dumb, but how will it be powered/will it be a self contained unit? I would envision an A/C robbing quite a few horse power from the engine. I am interested in the price of the A/C as well.

The air conditioning I think is going to cost about $350. Actually, I'm not exactly sure what it is going to cost. I know this all sounds excessive, but I do have to use this tractor a lot. But I use this machine a lot for snow work in the winters. We own & or maintain 8 lots all located in one neighborhood. 6 homes, 1 retail business lot, and 1 recreation hall. We do use a truck with a plow, but snow blowing gets rid of the snow bankings that constantly shrink up parking spaces. 1 drive way is over 700' long and paved. But we have a pond that I snowblow a 1000' foot path, so we can feed our Canada Geese. So yeah that's quite a bit of work to do without a heated cab. Then in the summer time we groom about 20 acres total between regular mowing and bush hogging. Then we have gardens to Roto Till Etc.. But I didn't want a huge tractor because it is too bulky to maneauver in tight situations. This size machine is perfect for me. But it was the snow blowing that made me hate freezing and getting snow blown all over my body, what would happen is I would start do half the job, and have to quit because I was frozen to the bone. And of course the job was done sloppy because I was in a hurry to get it done. Now I can take my time and do it right and have no excuses on why the job didn't get done.

AC is offered by both Jodale-Perry and Laurin Cab Inc. But I was told by them they are coming out with a better unit than they are working with now. So I decided to wait. As far as how it works, I don't know for sure, but I'm sure they must know what they are doing considering the quality they did with everything else. I'm not a mechanic, but they are engineers. I guess it would work like an conditioner that is found inside of a car. As far as stealing horsepower, yeah it might drain some power when it is in use, but I'm sure there is enough power in the machine that it can handle it and still do the job that needs to be done. I'm sure there will be enough power in "A" or "B" range. I'm not worried about it.

Doesn't sound excessive to me. I looked at the Jodale Perry website and priced out a hard cab for my 4400 after seeing your post. It came to $5822 (without the radio or beacons). I am guessing my dealer would charge about $500 for an installation. I did not even know about the Jodale Perry cabs until I saw your post.
In the John Deere Technical Manual I have it shows a cab for the 4200 thru 4400 tractors but says they are available for the European Export tractors only. Seems strange they would not have them available for the USA tractors. It shows some views of them and they look identical to the Jodale Perry cabs. Possibly this is who makes the cabs for john Deeres export units?
From looking at your pics I do not think I could use my 48 backhoe with the cab on the tractor. Do you agree?
Mike

Yeah, the European cab looks similar, but I've looked at, and studied those pics for a long time while waiting for my cab, but they are definatly different. I don't think Jodale makes the European cabs. It looks like the European cabs are built to be all one unit from the floor & fenders on up. Where the Jodale is an add on to fit on the existing North American Fenders. As far as using a backhoe, yeah I think you could still do it. There is plenty of room there still for your rear backhoe seat. You might have to slide your seat forward just a hair, but I don't see why it can't be done. Maybe with just a little adjustment. If anything, the only thing that I can see that would give you a problem is the seat. Because you definatly still have enough room for the actual hardware hook up for the backhoe. I'm sure the seat is just a simple adjustment fix. I know you can use the backhoe with the Laurin Cab, which doesn't seem to take up much less room in the back. I think the cab might be about 5" higher than the original ROPS.

Well, it looks like tonight I'm finally going to be able to put the new cab to the test. Everybody isn't looking forward to snow, except me around my town. I can't wait. I want lots of snow! Don't worry though, it will be gone in a few days.

The Cab worked like a charm in the snow. I do have to say I'm kind of sad that it is the bottom of the season, because I loved being out in the snow all night long. Best thing is when blowing snow... I can see all that snow I'm blowing do a curveball in the air and come back on the windows. I just had to laugh at it now, snow can't get me now. The heat worked awesome. At idle engine speed, (sitting idle) the heat blows a very mild luke warm air, I thought that could have been a little more productive. But, once you get the machine moving at all or start to work up a sweat the heat pours right out of the louvers. Foggy windows were not a problem, must have had plenty of circulation from the louvers alone. Wipers worked great. The extra work lights were awesome too. I did keep a window cracked most of the time, because I'm paranoid of CO2, sneeking up on me, and it still stayed nice and warm inside. The other thing I like about the cab is I've had plenty of room inside to keep things like a snow shovel and some grading sticks inside of the cab with me. Because of the sides of the cab, it keeps everything inside, without fear of falling out. I even had my 6 yr old nephew (who just happens to love tractors & Heavy Equipment like his uncle) riding with me for a little while cleaning my parking lot, He just sat right up above the left fender which was perfect size for him, and was completly safe, again because of the sides of the cab. And I still had room. He was loving it. But since we were on level parking lots and driveways, I felt it was safe to have him keep me company. It was really fun. Can't wait for more snow..... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
