I hear that be careful! One thing I do is start out with my whole tractor/mower on flat ground not grass and I set the lever at the correct height and dont mess with it much from that point on.
I did put a paint mark at the right spot on the gate next to the lever and on the few occasions where I do adjust it I can fairly easily look at the lever and mark and get it close enough.
Mine has an adjustable stop also I can move fwtw dont know if all of these had them or not?
