Another Glock 43 vote - just get the mag extension if you want a fuller grip.

My new carry gun is a Sig 938 SAS with extended magazine.

I got the H&K VP9...pricey but a nice gun that includes a selection of grip pieces to help you customize it to your hand. It's a double stack though (17 rounds I think). The one thing I don't care for is the lack of the cross-bolt trigger safety so I always carry with no round in the chamber...just something I grew up with but that is common these days. Funny how this works but I think gun selection now starts with the price of ammo and lately the availability of a proper holster. Add to that whether you want "inside" or "outside" carry (with my body shape my pants would fall down if I sized the pants for "inside" and didn't carry). One son went with the Springfield 9mm, the other one bought the same gun in .40S&W (and also bought a 9mm in some brand I can't recall). A lot of things to consider now...

Watch hickok45's take on the Glock 43. He loves it. I'm 6'7" with big hands and I love the 43. But I am, admittedly, a Glock guy. Get a comp-tac mtac holster and it's a comfortable carry gun. But get a good belt. The belt is critical.

I have the S&W M&P in a 22 caliber, same frame as the 9mm and 40, excellent gun. I think I will buy the 9mm very soon because I like the 22 so well. If you have an Academy Sports close I would check there. Great prices.

This ^.

I shoot an M&P 45 and it is the best pistol I have fired. Very accurate due to the trigger.

People keep mentioning the S&W Shield. Google it because I thought there was a problem with one of the S&W pistols, not the M&P but I thought the Shield, years ago.

When trying out the pistol, make sure the magazine falls easily out of the pistol when the mag release is hit. If the mag does not drop easily, go look at another model.

Later,
Dan

There are a ton of single stack 9's, from sub-compacts to full-sized.

For a carry piece how it fits in your hand is critical, do you have to try them. I got rid of a S&W Chief's Special 9 because I couldn't hold it well.

I favor Sig Sauer and Smith and Wesson. The last place in the world you want to economize is a CCW.

Sigma, mid-90's.

Shield is a new and extremely popular single stack.

Carry whatever and whenever you like, but do yourself a favor and get some real training. I mean real world, carrying a gun around, save my life training. I'd rather be an expert with a Campbell soup can then go to prision for the rest of my life because I shot a 15 year old robbing the 7Eleven. When you strap a gun on your side, the whole world takes on a different meaning. If your fear dissappears when you carry, get some training. If you feel nervous carrying (like most of us), get some training. Best training I ever had was hand to hand combat training, provided by Uncle Sam.

Stay safe out there!
