The HD versions are typically used in construction for spreading material. The inside blade is fixed for digging. The back outside blade swings to help smooth out the material being spread. When you back up, the outside blade acts like a fixed blade when it swings in and rests against the inside blade. The digging is accomplished with the inside blade when you are pulling forward. The hinged blade helps with a smoother finish

I have the Gannon construction grade BB listed by Woods. It will meet any expectations but at a higher cost. I think I paid around $3K for mine a few years back. The Gannon blade has been around awhile and you might be able to find a used one. Although it is one of those "until death do we part" kind of attachments...Gary

Piston, stick to your thoughts about a 1000lb box blade, you won't be sorry. You can keep an eye out for a roll-over box blade like what I have also.

We have a used LP 3572 and it seems to do quite well on our larger John Deere it does not do well on our 30hp Kubota, the angles never seem right on the hitch up.

THATS WHAT I WAS THINKING WHEN I FIRST STARTED TO NEED A BB. BUT IMO THE BEST BB WOULD BE A CLEVIS HITCH, HINGED BACK BB AS HEAVY AS I CAN FIND IT AND I DONT HAVE HYDRAULICS THERE IS NOT A NEED TO GET THE SCARIFIERS THAT ARE HYDRAULICS BUT IT WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE THEM. BUT IM THINKING A KING KUTTER IS THE BEST OPTION BUT I HAVE NOT FOUND WEIGHTS ON ANY OTHER ONES EITHER.

Second that I got aused 66" 700lb Roll-over for mine little more flexibility than a regular BB

Look at Modern Ag Equipment ( Dividion of Dragon Manufacturing in Beaumont, TX)
I just priced a 7' contractor series with hydraulic scarifier for $2300.
The 7' weighs 1011 lbs.
I'm not sure if they have a distributor that far north

Sorry bout hijacking the thread just one question to another member
Hey bakjr if you like give me a PM I can save you around 1/2 on that only thing is these are galv. If youd drive a few hours Sorry Piston think too far for you

Piston,
I would stick with a heavy duty model in the 6' to 7' width. I would strongly recommend top and tilt hitch and hydraulic scarifiers too. Since construction is slow you may want to look around at rental yards to see if they have some used ones available at a cost savings. Compare these to new ones before you buy.

I have a Frontier BB1284 which is a rebadged Gannon 7' wide I bought new in 2005 that weighs 1250 lbs, very satisfied with it.

I guess I'm committed now! I just ordered a 4 spool stack valve from surplus center last night for a top and tilt setup.
It will be interesting for me to install because I don't know too much about hydraulics but I've been reading the heck out of threads on here lately and have learned a lot so far.

I'm leaning towards a 77" HD box scraper from either Woods or Landpride if I have to buy brand new. I think the SR series has mechanical retractable scarifiers by using a lever, which I assume I could add a hydraulic cylinder to.

If I could find an HD box scraper with hyd scarifier's for a decent price then I might take the plunge, but it seems like they're close to 3 grand and I just don't think I can justify that. I will be using it a lot so maybe, but not sure yet.

I'm still holding out for a used one for as long as I can, or at least until I just can't take it anymore and need to buy another toy

Does it not to as well on the 30hp Kubota just because the hitch doesn't line up? Or is it because it's too heavy for the tractor?

Is there any reason a 1,000lb box scraper would be too big for my tractor? It seems like everything points to the biggest heaviest box blade I can afford/manage.

I think a 77" would be a good size for my tractor, it woudln't stick out much farther than the 72" bucket but would still be able to get close to structures without rubbing my tires against them.
