Recommend a new bench vise

I have a large Yost vise that came off a military 5 ton wrecker. I like it! Look in yard sales, and local auctions.

Years ago... like more than 30 I was given a vice. I don't know what brand, but it was broken. I welded it. It broke again. So I braised it. That was like I say more than 30 years ago. I mounted it on my welding table and it's been abused ever since.

Really solid cast/forged steel vice, and you probably can't break it.... Vice of choice for blacksmiths...

This one looks identical to my 30+ year old Sears Craftsman vice. Identical. I’m wondering if Yost didn’t produce it for Sears? Whoever made it, it has been flawless and hasn’t broken no matter how much I’ve abused it.

I have a modest Olympia Tools Hitch Vise mounted to the corner of the flatbed on my 3/4 ton ranch truck. It is very helpful to always have a vise with me.

Craigslist and FBMP are good places to get tools.

Sometimes a short drive will reward one with a nice old piece worth using.

The nice thing about getting good vises for great prices is you can mount them everywhere. This Wilton is made to go in a receiver hitch. It is long to get past the open tailgate.

I don't leave the vise in the receiver, nor any of my hitch inserts. All the times I have used it was helping neighbor farmers work on their equipment out in the fields.
