A reputable company will have a DOT #, MC # (Authority), DOT inspected vehicles, and depending on the truck and/or trailer used, a Medical Card. They will also have to have a $750,000 liability insurance policy, among other requirements, determined by equipment.
On UShip, you値l find a lot of fly-by-nighters. Same with Facebook and Craigslist. They will generally tell you they are 斗icensed and insured? Ask what that means. They usually won稚 know. When you get their DOT #, look it up, you will be able to see their driving/inspection history and if they actually have the Authority.
If they tell you they don稚 need any of this, they are lying or ignorant, either way, not who I want hauling my stuff. If their weight rating is over 10,000 pounds, they have to have all this (not a CDL or Medical Card, if at 26,000 pounds or less).
