a burp valve would make that super easy..

burp between fills.

I was thinking where I live in WV of going with about 35% methonal and 65% water.
That would be good to -15. I don't remember it ever being that cold for more than a day or so.
Think that would be OK Soundguy?

Being from somewhere near you, I can tell you that my tires froze once this winter with straight water. Even that only lasted about 10 min until it broke up. If you are on a budget, I would say you need minimal freeze protection.

Also, you can get Rimguard at Middletown in Fairmont and there is also someplace in Weston and Bridgeport. L&T here in Buckhannon uses Methanol and charges more than Rimguard. Not sure what Burrs here in Buckhannon sells.

When I was searching for adding weight I coverted my numbers to weight since in essence you are buying weight, not volume.
Rim Guard seems to me to be cost effective from what I have checked on. I had called a dealer last week and they said it would take about 110 gallons for a pair of17.5L-24R4 tires. Total cost would be $330. It would give me about 1200# (11# per gallon) total ballast. That is about .27 a pound. I also don't need a pump and valve as I would for window washer. I know Rim Guard is not readily availible everywhere so window washer fluid would be my second choice.

I know I dislike calcium for sure. You have to have a tube. It eats rims and nothing worse than getting a cut tire in the field and having a dead spot.

Window washing fluid at $1.20 a gallon and weighing around 8# a gallon will come in at roughly .15 a lb. You may have to buy a pump and a valve. I haven't priced either one of those items.
50/50 mixed antifreeze would be around .37 a pound. Now if you save your drained anti freeze or buy a used barrel of antifreeze from a car salvage yard you can get that down pretty cheap.

the pump and valve are a whopping 5$ a piece. and around here you can get antifreeze ofr free from auto shops.. thus you are investing time + 10$ if you went that route.

or time plus 10$, plus ww fluid sufficient enough to prevent solid freeze.. or same with something like rv PG af...

I loaded 2 16.9-24 fatty turf tires one morning while I was piddling arounnd my shop cleaning up.. used a cheapy burp valve and rv af.. mixed it thin... was cheap.. still better than air for weight...

I paid just under $200 for rimguard on 11.2 x24 tires. Should have done it when I first got the tractor. Non toxic, compatible with tire selant, weighs more than water/methanol mixes, won't corrode rims, and I don't think it's that expensive since you only do it once.

Hey wvpolecat,
I purchased that methonal in Spencer for $2.50 per gallon at Harris oil co.
If I figured right a 14.9 X 28 to be good to -15 which is the size I'm going to refill,
will only need 17.5 gallons of methonal which is only about $44.00 ea.
And I'm going from memory but I believe the 14.9 X 28 takes about 50 gallons of mix to fill at 75%.
As you said too, it could at the minimum. So I'm sure you could fill that size tire for a good bit less.
By the way I live in Clay County.

I would like to recommend a product called BOOST* with calcium chloride. It is Non-Corrosive, no problem with rim rot. It weighs more then 32% calcium and Beet Juice. 11.28 lbs. per gallon. Contact Dave at Great lakes chloride if your interested. daveb.glc@gmail.com

No it's not the simoniz sealtite ballast boost. This product is 32% Calcium Chloride, (Liquidow) with a corrosion inhibitor. It's a denatured molasses. We have used it in loader tires and tractors. Eliminated rim problems, should be price comparable with other liquids. More weight per gallon though.

interesting.. sounds like a combination of cacl and rimguard.. :)
