I am a several-month lurker here--few posts because have had nothing much to contribute because I am a greenhorn (newbie), so the following is just a friendly FYI: If anyone uses Red Line Diesel 15W-40, or would like to try it, Amazon at this very minute has a case of 12 quarts for $92.88 with free (Super Saver) shipping, which seems excellent to me--$7.74 a quart delivered. Warning: It may even go lower, as Amazon pricing is squirrely (i.e., highly changeable).

I have used Red Line lubricants in all my German cars and motorcycles (back when I could afford to own them and drive them supralegally) and had great results so I am going to use their 15W-40 Diesel in my new JD 3720 starting at the 50-hour change. It is a Group V ester-based synthetic and is an established brand. Have only occasionally seen Red Line mentioned here at TBN and then only in passing--not sure why. Lots of Mobil 1 folks here, a great Group IV PAO synthetic I have also used with good results. Maybe it's an availability thing.

BTW, I don't own stock in or sell Red Line, period. End of year cheers to you and yours...

Redline is a good product, why you need it in a tractor I don't know. Almost $8 a gallon is something to think about. Oils do wear out in time, even synthetics can get contaminated in time, only perfect conditions will let you go extended oil changes with a synthetic. My opinion. If you want the best for your tractor buy it, but don't go to the extended intervals as they suggest.

Sorry $8 a quart

If you do decide to do extended drain intervals I would highly recommend starting to do UOA's (used oil analysis). It's the only real safe way to implement a extended drain interval. It's also a great health indicator for the engine.

I've gone through most of the high end synthetic oils. Amsoil, Mobil 1, Delvac, Rotella, Royal Purple and I'm sure some I forgot along the way, and I find that the Red Line stuff works the best. They have the best base, and I truly notice the difference when I use Redline over the others.

I use it in everything, tractors, large diesel trucks, Duramax diesels, Mercedes Diesel, and all my gas vehicles including my Jeep and Ford V-10 engines.

One quick example on my Jeep. When driving it the shift lever would actually get hot coming from the standard transmission and transfer case. I changes fluids and the shaft is now cool to the touch instantly after the fluid change.

I only use products that I can actually tell a difference and I did. Another time I changed the tranny fluid in my motor home against everyones advice to use redline ( OH YOU BETTER STICK WITH FORDS FLUID) - The doghouse over the motor cooled down and the temps dropped 30 degrees.

So like you a cooler engine is a longer lasting engine so only the best for me and my engines, even if it was twice the price.

Sure people will argue ("I've used .99 cent oil from Wal Mart for 50 years and blah, blah, blah ) OK sure, each to his own, they do what works for them and I do what works for me, that's what makes the world go around.

We run Red Line in our MF 1523. Canadian Tire stocks it, @$12 per Liter, I really think our tractor is worth it.
