I seldom run anywhere near maximum rpm on either tractor. The 3-cylinder YM186D occasionally, momentarily, when I'm trying to do something that I probably shouldn't.

The YM240 two-cylinder is much cruder. It sounds like its going to grenade over 1900 rpm, its painful to listen to, although these run for years at maximum in fishing boat, refrigeration, generator applications without harm. Hearing protection mandatory! With the same torque available anywhere from 1800 to 2400 rpm I very seldom push it to 2400.

Further down the road from me, a nursery has a YM155D. I've heard that machine run too. Yes, the noise is a bit alarming if you never heard a 2-cly popping away at high throttle.

Yep 2400 is the max rated output. You won't see any increase beyond that rpm. The governor shouldn't let a properly set engine go that much past it anyway. If the tractor is set up you can pull the throttle all the way back under load and not really I we rev it. But you don't really need to run it that high as your past peak HP and Torque so your not doing anything at that point but putting excess wear on the engine and useing excess fuel.

That was painful!!! Poor starter! That's probably why the one on there was shiney and new looking!!

But that also didn't sound like wide open throttle like he said. But that tractor looks to have had a hard and abused life. Random wood block for seat to rest on, missing shifter knob. Terrible start procedure. That's just what I noticed.
