OK Guys you keep going on about how close to the walls, why not read the specs of the stove.

But this is not the subject of my post is there an easy way to cut smaller wood branches maybe 10 to 8 feet long without having to step on them? I do not have good balance these days and would not care to fall with chain saw. I prefer to cut with both my feet on the ground.

I was wondering if this would work, place the 8 foot log or branch out and lay on top of another log or cement block so that I could use the down pressure of the bucket to keep the log or branch in the air to cut it is the small branches that are a real pain in the butt to cut up. the bigger the log
and heavier it is I cut on the folks of the tractor but have not found a good
answer for the small stuff yet.

Let here from folks

Cut the branch or limb into a manageable size to lift, then set it on a wood pile or ontop of some crossways wood. Then put the chain saw to it and let the branch get pulled into the dogs of the saw as you push down. Unless your trying to cut like 4ft long 1" diameter branches it will work. That or cut them on the tree before you cut them off, this is what i do, and if its to tall still or on the groung side trim it off and do what i said earlier.

we use a sawbuck where we stack a lot of the little branches in it and cut them all at once. It prevents us from bending over all the time and puts the wood at waist height.

Problem with using a chainsaw to cut small stuff is the branches catch in the chain and bounce around too much. A set of crossed into "X" shaped
2x4,s to make a v shape to hold your small stuff in. You can even stack some small branches in that V. Use a Sawzall with a long woodcutting blade. They have battery sawzalls that are light enough you could use without wearing yourself out. A good set of pruning loppers would work as well. Using a small sharp hatchet on a log is another method but fingers are about the same consistency to an axe.

i pick up the felled trees with my pallet forks and start to chop while tree is above the ground. Keep stripping and chopping till the tree starts to tilt, then i go to the other end and do the same thing.

I cut small stuff with the top of my chain saw blade in a lifting motion- sometimes bracint the motor against my thigh. Watch out for kickback= and don't cut across your body, cut vertical and outside your legs so that if it jumps it swings clear of your body. The tip will cause the kick back. Avoid touching the tip against anything.

Getting back a little late. **** job. Last thing on the clearance issue. I posted that pic of the lopi and started it. The lopi is designed as a zero clearance stove. Ours is about 24 inches the wall gets warms but not hot web wen the stove is rolling.

Hi Guys
Is there a way to use the furnace to move the air around the house so that it circulates? Is there a way to have the fun run only and not use fuel oil?

Been using the stove now for about a month and love it. What I love the most is not to hear the furnace come any more!! I was a little worried about the fact that the house has ducts under the crawl space and I am sure there is a heat loose (when furnace ran) from the ducts which might of kept the pipes under the house from freezing. The furnace is in the middle of the house but it would evenly heat. I am not unhappy with the heat only the little concerned with the pipes when the wind blows. I am looking for round bales like I did last year to set against the house as I did not get the blown in insulation done this year.

Depending on your thermostat there might be a Fan Only setting on it to run the fan. My old house had that and the cold air inlet was in the same room as the woodstove. That worked great to pull the heat out of that room and spread it around the rest of the house.
If your thermostat doesn't have that switch on it you typically can buy one cheap to replace an older style with.

I could not resist posting some pictures of a hunt we did the other day. One of the guys came had an expensive digial camera and got some good pictures at least I thought they are good.

This is Blue he is not a point lab, but a lab that points!

Me and Blue in the mule.

There was one week I used Blue to guide some hunts and he got over 70 with in a 6 day period pheasants he was a very tired, very happy dog. I double his food that week and he still lost weight.

Here is a guy that was training his little english cocker spaniel she is so little you can not see the dog. But we had some funny photos of the hunt. One photo is Peter one of the guys trying to keep the pheasant from going in the hedge row as we are trying to re catch her for the young dog. she had been hit and could not fly, but boy she could she RUN!!!
Then Blue comes in a saves the day.

When Blue points he normally will hold point for about 10 seconds the hunters can get really close and then without me saying a word he goes in on the bird. If he traps a pheasant and he retreives it he is so soft mouth with the pheasants they will always fly afterwoods. Pheasants are very sensative and Blue never harms them. I have trained field trail labs for 30 years and never had a dog bring back a live pheasant without a mark on it. Ducks yes, but not pheasants.
