Reducing Decibel Level

escavader, Which Bose are they, the Quiet Comfort 15? Are they REALLY that quiet? I've been using Bilsom Thunder 30db muffs, but I have been tempted by active cancellation units.

YES the first ones[QC -15].Ioriginally bought them for my atv,and they are so good ,before i even start the music i can barely tell if the engine is running or not.They are pricey [300 or so]but the BOSE stereo sound is far superior than any other i have ever heard.Ihemmed and hawed for along time[almost bought the cheaper ones],and finally said the heck with it and bought them.Left the store feeling foolish for spending that kind of money foolishly,but now a year later ,i realize it was a wise investment,one i dont regret.
Working in A PLANER MILL,im required to have annual hearing tests,and the money spent on noise reduction headphones,will surely help me on those.Like i said i dont have the music loud ,because i have no background noise

I agree that it's definitely no mistaking that Kubota's aren't diesel. It's a bit
louder than our 574 both being 4 cyl. they sound nothing alike. Now take
our 5140 it has a 6 cyl, Cummins turbo, outside the cab it's pretty loud
inside the cab it's a smooth purr, no clacky diesel at all. Now the 686
with the aftermarket turbo, hearing protection is pretty much a requirement,
it sound bad a.. with it's straight chrome pipe but it's loud. I'll say this
though we love our Kubota, that HST pedal will spoil anyone.

On my L2800 the loudest noise for me is the whine of the hst and I think if you had a cab it would be even worse. Some rubber backed astroturf would quiet the cab up, u would have to the the oj color so it all matches:laughing:

At the boat shows I used to talk to the people who made sound-deadening paint--they made some strong claims about how much it would reduce engine noise if you used it to paint the inside of your engine room on your yacht.

Perhaps painting the inside of the engine sheet metal with this stuff would deaden some of the racket. No, I don't have a link handy but you can probably source it from West Marine or Fisheries Supply in Seattle.
