Registering a New Trailer in Maine

I thought Maine reg trailers had to be used 80% interstate

I think we are talking semi tractor trailers and light home owner trailers and getting mixed up.....

If you bought a large semi-trailer, it is assumed that it will be used in Interstate Commerce and no sales tax is required..

If that were true (and I doubt that it is) how would one document such use?
Have a trailer only use log, with trailer distances, and destinations logged for each trip made, and then calculate to see what percentage of those trailer trips were interstate?
Who would be the monitoring authority?
The Maine DOT?
How would they actually monitor the trailer usage, and the accuracy of the trailer log entries?

A totally impractical situation!

So....ooo I bought my 14K construction trailer in MA, and immediately registered it in ME.
I don't live in ME. (FL, permanent residence).
I tow it with my 4x4 HD2500 454 V-8 Suburban.
I don't claim fuel tax as a deduction, and the trailer and Suburban are for personal use only.
ME. trailer registration application form did not raise any questions that I could not answer truthfully.

No your good, If you own a tractor trailer rig and haul for profit as a company or business you have to file quarterly fuel reports..

As for the tax to maintain roads issue....
The "Greenies" have that one all figured out!
They will record/read your odometer periodically, and you will then pay their "Green Road Tax" for each mile recorded.

Nah- they will put a little camera in your cab and record everything you do (and say) while it monitors your odometer

Not difficult to understand. If you have registered a trailer in Maine as a non-resident I figure you ought to know a bit about how it works and what the real costs are.
If you haven't, you might not.

I'm just amused by the typical TBN style "discussion".
The actual facts are irrelevant to me.
