The only snow removal equipment I had then was a shovel. It only worked well enough to barely get my truck off the road. I didn't see my car for three weeks!
I was just about to respond to your earlier post. I can't believe you use Bag Balm on your lips - I use it on my heels, but I don't think I could put it on my lips. Then this message just wierded me out...I didn't know you marines were that tough /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif
What in the heck is a jar head doing on a boat that sinks?
I smell a story... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
But back to the thread... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
I was living in Louisville, KY in 77/78 and I remember the
storm. We had a heat pump. We where never warm. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
We had a couple of good snow storms during those two
winters and one dropped 19 inches of snow. Which is a lot
but the last two/three years in NC we have had two storms
that put down 24 inches... /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
The KY storm put us out of school for a good week and then
the teachers went on strike. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif Having time off for the
snow was one thing but the strike killed us. We had a very
short summer to make up for the lost time and we had an
extra hour of school a day. Ten minutes where added to each
class so the hour did not help one get more edicated but it
sure made one really tired at the end of the day...
How we avoided frost bite I'll never know. We where out in
that cold having snow ball fights. Running down in the woods
on the frozen creek. Everyone fell through the ice and would
get wet up to our knees. Get home and the jeans would be
frozen like boards. Legs all red. Jump in the shower and it
would hurt. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Go out the next day and do it all over again!

I can't quite believe anyone would use bag balm on their lips either! It's great on hands, but it's gotta taste horrible. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
The drug stores around here have sold Bag Balm for as long as I can remember, but recently they started putting it behind the counter???? Maybe because it's labeled for use on animals? Just seems wierd to me. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
An employment transfer put us in Southern California in '74, so we generally missed those severe winters. Being something of a snow nut (or just a regular, garden variety nut, depending on who you ask), So Cal was nice, but I missed the snow.
Oh yes I do ember those years the Ohio river and the licking rivers froze solid and we walked from Kentucky to Ohio on it. And the only vehicles allowed on the road were 4wd
