Remote Control Kubota?

I remember back years ago a friend of the family who owns a Kubota dealership, brought over a remote control lawn tractor.

I was only 12 or 13 at the time and it's hard to remember the details.

I remember it had crab steering (cool) because we would drive it diagonally down the yard. I seem to remember that it maybe had suspension (?) and that it resembled more of an ATV then anything.

The best part was when I would chase my brother with it (using the remote) as cars drove by. That sure got some looks from people driving buy. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Anyway, I KNOW you guys know what machine this is. I just interested in seeing some pics/links for nostagilias sake and I'm interested in seeing the machine.

I remember him saying they had only ever sold 1 or 2. To the goverment (go figure).

I know people who have seen it, I have not. They where selling them to places like aligator farms in flordia where people could not go safly.

The Kubota dealer I worked for had one of these. I can't remember the model number, but it is no longer in production.
The owner was trying it out on a steep bank approaching a four lane hwy almost causing a motorist to wreck because they thought it was a runaway. He got an earful from the motorist.

I finally found some literature on the Kubota PX-2100 remote controlled mower. I think it was sold in the late 80's and cost was in the $20,000.00 range. 20hp, 4WD, conventional / 4 wheel steering / crab steering, hydrostatic transmission, 60" mid mount mower. We think there still may be one in the Central Division Warehouse (Ft. Worth, Tx) way up on a rack in the back of the building. Probably could sell them today with the increased emphasis on slope mowing safety.

The PX2100 was introduced in limited production as prototype. As I recall, the overheating problem was localized to the servo controller box under the seat. Kubota never bothered to fix the problem and disconyinued the product due to general lack of interest. I would suggest that you fit a forced air cooling system such as an electric fan to cool the servo control box. )</font>
