Remounting Rear Wheel

I'm thinking about adding a rear remote to my TC25D and this will require removing the right rear wheel.

Before I start, I thought I'd ask how hard it it to remount the rear wheel since there aren't any studs to have it sit on, right? You have to hold the tire/wheel at the same time you're trying to start a bolt, correct?

BTW, wheels are not filled.

Hmm, that raises another issue. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I'll have to check my hydraulic jack. Not even sure it will go high enough to lift the right rear wheel off the ground. I assume it's safe to place the jack on the axle between the diferential and the wheel?

Look closely at your wheels, I have 2 studs on my TC18 & the rest are bolts. Don't know if your class 2 is the same or not.

If not, it might be worth your while to get a short piece of threaded rod to use as a stud - be sure to get the right threads I'm pretty sure they are metric. Or you could get a spare bolt from your dealer & cut the head off.

Simply use your stud to align & get the rest of the bolts on. Then back the stud out & put the last bolt in. Don't fully torque the bolts untill you have all of them on.

Would be easier than mounting the dual on my TW-20 (tire is as tall as me...). And I do that by myself. Just think things through, & don't be _under_ anything that can fall. Block the tractor up with more than the jack for working on it, and stay out from under when mounting the wheel. Have the tractor in nutral & you can line up 1 bolt & one hole pretty easily, then rotate the rim to get the rest in. A little up or down with the jack helps.

I have jack stands, it's the jack I am not sure will go high enough. It's a little 3 ton jack I bought at Sears ages ago. It barely goes high enough to lift the back end of my garden tractor off the ground, so I imagine it will not have enough travel to do the same to my TC25D. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Mike - Here's an idea that might work. I've never actually tried it, but I have heard of people stealing those big tires off 4X4 trucks using a similar method. They put blocks under the axles and let the air out of the tires, then unbolt them and go. If your tires are not loaded and you have an air compressor (to air the tire back up again), then you can do the same basic thing. Just put some blocks (wooden, not concrete) under the axle somewhere that they can't slip off. Get the blocks so they are right up tight against the axle. Let some air out of the tire until most of the weight is on the blocks. Loosen the bolts on the tire and then let a little air out of the tire until there is slack in the bolts (no longer any weight on the bolts). Take the bolts out and roll the tire out of the way. To put it back on, reverse the process and put a little air in the tire or let some out as needed to get the holes lined up. So, basically you just use the tire as a jack! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Mike, when I've had to line up a tire and wheel that had no studs, I stick my long, tapered drift pin (punch) through one of the holes in the wheel and into one of the bolt holes to line it up while I put the first two lug bolts in. Of course, I've used the same method to line up other things that I had to put bolts in.

I have the same problem; third remote kit for a TN.
You forget how tall these guys are until you need to jack up and take off the rear wheel. Its 24" just to make contact to the back axel, plus several inches to take the tire off. The wood blocks sounds like a bad idea, to much potential for the blocks to slip out.
Any body own a jack with 30" or so lift? A high lift jack might work but may be hard to get it in place.

The bolt idea is a good one for aligning the tire. I was also thinking of using an engine lift to pick up and move the tire around.
Anyone have any good ideas on the easiest way to do this?
