Removing A stump

Sounds like that would work. A friend told me that after I power wash it, I should be able to cut it up with a chain saw. I am going to try that. First I will use the stump grinder to knock a lot of the dirt off.

I started washing the stump with a garden hose. The neighbor with the power washer is out of town. The dirt is actually coming off pretty well. It just takes a lot of time. I think I will still do a final wash with the power washer to get off the grit. Any thoughts on this.

I finally borrowed the neighbors power washer. It worked real well if you don't mind getting real dirty. I got most of the dirt off and then used the stump grinder. The roots are a lot easier to grind that the part sticking above ground. They are probably still pretty wet. I actually flipped it over with the bucket today, so it is getting a lot lighter. Tomorrow I plan to grind some more, wash off the remaining dirt and then take it to the burn pile. I don't plan to use the chain saw since the grinder is doing so well.

I've been keeping tabs on your stump Bob. Keep up the good work and pictures please. I have a large stump that I have worked with some. My dad (84 now) said that in the old days they would take a team of mules, a large long pole and chain and twist stumps out. They also had dynamite.

I finished the stump today. I ground it down until is was about 500 to 600 pounds. I alternated between the stump grinder and the power washer to achieve this. I then picked it up with the forks and dumped it back in the woods. I then filled in the hole with the 4 in 1 bucket and smoothed it out with a rake.

I did have one problem. I got one of the tow stramps caught up in the stump grinder. After I got it off, the stump grinder was leaking oil around its shaft. I will have to have the seal replace. My fault, I should have pulled that strap well away from the stump.

Don't feel bad, while moving a wind blown branch to an area where I could better work with my 4n1 bucket, I stretched the hydraulic hoses beyond their limit. I found out the hard way you can't run the hoses over through and around the top bar. It cost me $42 plus change to replace the hoses!

Don't Know if this will qualify or not but I broke the rear glass out of my pick up when the grapple bucket rolled off the top of a large cut of wood that I was attempting to remove from it. That definitely was my fault. $50 for used glass, put it in myself.

I went an got the stump out of the woods to take a picture. It was about all The PT422 could carry.

The stump grinder repair will be in the $50 dollar range. I had it done once before. A root around the shaft can also damage the seal. All part of the PT experience.

If you don't use it, it won't break.

Bob's pt is fondly referred to as the Mk1 Mod4 Ripley Urban Assault Tractor. If you look closely you will see the wife, 2 kids and Toyota pickup truck in there also.
