Removing christmas trees stumps

If just doing a 100 or 200 I'd try the root ripper. (Plus it would give me an excuse to actually buy a root ripper.) Lot's of good ideas in this thread. Going back to the early suggestions, for this acreage I think I'd hire a dozer. I imagine a skilled operator would learn quickly how much blade to use and ground damage would be minimal. I'd tell him to go fast and I'd handle all the clean up. 2 days is my guess for the dozer work.

Make sure he uses a root rake and not the dozer blade.

A double tooth ripper on your 3 point will be easiest on the L3800. 20 Acres, that 19 too many!

Lets see... stumps in the way to work the land. Two birds with one stone: Forestry Mulcher. Stumps, roots, holes all gone and the ground worked without beating up your tractor and the organic matter stays in the soil. If you are considering renting or contracting it out, to me there isn't much question that this is the way to go.

My B3300 isn't that much smaller than your 3800 and as said, 20 acres is 19 too many.

Does anyone make a giant drill bit to use on a post hole digger? A 3 inch diameter hole down thru the pith of the stump might go a long way in softening them up. The auger type with the threaded pilot to make them self feeding.

On 20,000 stumps?????

You mean one of these. Twenty thousand stumps might take a day or two.

Based on the video at 3 stumps a minute it would take 112 hours of continuous operation. That doesn't seem like a viable option IMO. I think I could beat that rate with a puller on a CTL. A dozer with a root rake would be the fastest.

At 3 feet per second, it would take 20 or 30 hours just to walk along and kick them all.

I'll be interested to see how you decide do it, and how long it takes. Please get some before/during/after photos!

I've got 30 acres full of cedar trees that I've been slowly clearing. The tree sizes range from small to quite large. My method is to use a backhoe to rip the lateral roots out, and then use the tractor/grapple to push the tree over and grab it with the grapple and haul it to a burn pile.

My method is effective, but slow. It's a losing proposition on 30 acres. I'm about ready to just hire a dozer for 2 or 3 days and then deal with the cleanup mess that I know will be facing me.

I didn't read all the posts because I know what worked for me: I used a super duty, 125 hp rated single shank ripper on a 90hp tractor in 4wd and drove over the top and popped out almost every one of my stumps. No big deal.

What didn't work is a small backhoe. I had to move multiple times and left holes and roots sticking out and stumps full of dirt.

The species of tree that was used for Christmas trees could be a huge variable in what you need to remove them.
When we were running a 30,000 tree Christmas tree operation, we planted trees that were genetically created by Texas A&M just for use as Christmas trees.
The stumps of these trees would rot very quickly and we could remove them by kicking with a boot aprox 14 - 15 months after the tree was cut.
A moldboard plow would have no problems at all in one of these fields a year after cutting.

I'd suggest you find out what species of tree stump you're dealing with, then research how fast they will rot in your environment.

It would take me longer, I only have 2 feet each second

Just a follow up on my stumps. Had a John Deere 35 come in this w-end. Removed 750 stumps,
took 6-7 hours. Gives me the room for a food plot. Balance of them still rotting. Only solution I found.

Cheers
